I think 49ers are stacked on paper. Just comes down to whether we could get to Purdy before he got it to those playmakers that SF has everywhere.

Purdy is the weak link. Not that he's a bad QB, just he's young/inexperienced and doesn't have any elite talents/skills. If we could get to him fast, on the majority of passing downs, yeah, we could slow them down a lot.


But look at PHI's elite DL not able to get that done. If we couldn't get to him any more often than PHI, it'd be a big problem.

He is very good at running the Shanahan system. But his physical limitations become apparent if he has to make tight window throws due to his pop gun arm.


My guess is if we faced SF, game comes down to Spags gameplan and if we can manufacture enough points to keep up. No wonder Toney keeps getting put on ice.

It'd have to be a big enough lead to take away their running game. And it would have to be late in the game. A 10-point lead early in the first half isn't going to force Shannahan to change how he calls his offense. And I doubt we win 7/10.
