I still can't help but remember how close we were to losing the game that McDermott dared us to run the football.

2020, right? In Buffalo, IIRC. McDermott just went light boxes, soft zones and said 'fine - run the ball...'

We did. For like 200 yards. MEH had like 150+. During the game it felt like we were just pushing them around and dominating.

Then in the 4th quarter the Bills score a TD to make it 23-17 Chiefs. And then someone (I don't recall who) fumbles the damn ball and Buffalo recovers....only to have the call overturned as the knee was just barely down before the ball comes out. We go get another FG and the score ends up looking like we coasted.

But in a game we seemingly had total control over the entire time, we lose if that fumble was a fumble. Because (and stop me if this sounds familiar) we couldn't finish a damn drive.

If I'm McDermott, with all these injuries, I really think I'd run with that plan again. Because anything can happen in the 4th quarter of a playoff game if you get it within a score. And if you shorten the game, the odds of it still being within a score are quite a bit better.

"Bills have averaged 35 rushes/game for 157 yards average since Joe Brady took over. That's 1st in the league since week 10 when Joe Brady became OC."

There's your key to the game. Stop the run, don't let Josh run wild and force them into 3rd and long.

Are you experiencing this issue because Davis is OUT on Sunday?

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

That seems like the gameplan that’s likely, to me.

It’s also a more difficult game plan to run with what Buffalo will have at LB compared to what it had in that game.

Just caught the end of NFL live for the injury discussion. Both Orlovsky and Mina picked the Chiefs, only analysts on set today.

It’s basically what we used to do to the Steelers pre-Mahomes. Let Bell get his 200+ from scrimmage and clamp down the passing game/redzone, muddy the game up and hope to be within a score in the 4th.

We’ll see their gameplan come Sunday but I will say that being gashed by Pacheco will be a totally different experience than getting gashed by CEH, especially if there’s no rain this time around.
