To his credit, he stayed away from political social nonsense and just focused on basketball. There was probably a similar amount of fan fatigue back then because he was on every commercial for Nike, Gatorade, McDonald’s, etc as well as being the sports center highlight every night.

Now I want to go read old newspapers.

I'm pretty sure y'all were just fine with him being a dick because of the skills and the shoes.

It's also basketball, there are dedicated fans, but no where near the level of football, even in that ERA. When Football is by far America's #1 sport and the Chiefs are stealing everyone else's Cheese every year, they are going to be hated. However, many Chiefs fans will now be in every state of the union as kids want to follow a winner. It drove me nuts in grade school in the 70's, all the Raider, Cowboy and Steeler fans at my school.

Jordan with six wins is impressive. But I think Magic making the Finals 9 times in 12 years with 5 wins is just as impressive.

That's bullshit. MJ was an icon during his time that I don't think the sports world has seen since. There was a whole book written talking shit on him and it didn't affect his brand at all. He was followed so much, social media wouldn't have made a huge difference in his case.

He's not perfect but who is?

Factor into your calculations that cancel culture wasn’t a thing back then like it is today.

I can remember when the highlight of my Chiefs fan Super Bowl experience. Was during Super Bowl media week. Jamaal Charles and two other NFL RBs. Were stoned out of their gourds during an interview. So go gargle ball hair

I was a Steelers fan in those days because they were always going up against the Raiders and Cowboys in the playoffs. I loved the Chiefs but man they sucked.

People are small... They hate unless it's their team. It happened here and everywhere all the time with the Patriots dynasty. There was no appreciation for what you were witnessing, and sure some of it is tainted, but it doesn't take away from the overall fact that they were a significant factor for two decades with a QB and Coach who are both immediate HOFers.

It transcends all sports. They hated the Celtics of the 80s and the Bulls of the 90s. They hated the Red Wings of the 90s too.

Appreciate true greatness even when it isn't your team. MJ was special with a coach as good as he was. The Red Wings of the 90s and early 2000s were one of the greatest hockey teams ever assembled with one of the greatest coaches to ever do it.

Some things you may never see the likes of again, so enjoy it for what it is. I'll never see the Russian 5 light up the net and blaze across the ice again in a lifetime. I'll never see another MJ fadeaway to seal the deal yet again. I'll never see Tom Brady methodically carve up any and all defenses with 1000 paper cuts to get gritty wins. And we will likely never see another QB quite like Mahomes, making magical off-platform throws.
