Derrick Thomas....

(Again if posted sorry)

Thomas Semi-Finalist for Hall of Fame

Nov 19, 2004, 9:38:58 AM

The late Derrick Thomas, a nine-time Pro Bowler who played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989-99, is among several first-year eligible players who head the list of 25 semi-finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2005. Thomas was chosen by the Hall of Fame’s Board of Selectors from the recently announced list of 90 preliminary nominees.
Thomas was the heart and soul of one of the league’s best defenses in the decade of the ‘90s. His drafting in 1989 by the Chiefs signaled the team’s revival as a legitimate NFL power. Over his career, he received many accolades including the prestigious NFL Man of Year honor and Byron “Whizzer” White Award. He was also named by President George H. Bush as the “832nd Point of Light”.On the field Thomas established team records for sacks, safeties, fumble recoveries and forced fumbles. He produced a club-record 20 sacks in 1990 including an NFL record seven sacks in a single game against the Seattle Seahawks. Thomas passed away on February 8, 2000 following a serious automobile accident in Kansas City. The list of semi-finalists will be reduced by mail ballot to 13 modern-era candidates. That list will then increase to 15 finalist nominees with the inclusion of the two recommended candidates of the Hall of Fame’s Senior Committee. This year’s Seniors Committee nominees, who were announced in August, are two of pro football’s early pioneers – Benny Friedman and Fritz Pollard. The Seniors Committee reviews the qualifications of those players, coaches and contributors whose careers took place more than 25 years ago. The list of 15 finalists for he Class of 2005 will be announced in mid-January.

You all are a little late with this narrative.

We shouldn't do this. I can see doing something like this:

15 (Mahomes) + 32 (Bolton) + 7 (Butker) + 4 (Rice)

or maybe

15 (Mahomes) + 38 (Sneed) + 4 (Rice) + 1 (McKinnon)

But there should be no connection between this team and teams that didn't win.

Not a connection to any team(s) that didn't win. A connection with a Chiefs' Hall of Famer who died way too young.

Schrager made that DT 58/SB 58 connection on GMFB this morning. I thought it was nice, honestly. He did a good job with his entire tribute to DT.

Just the same name, jerseys, helmets, play in the same stadium.

There's no Chiefs fan anywhere of the DT era that sees the number 58 and doesn't get at least a flash of Derrick Thomas.

This is a bit silly.

Defense has really stepped up this year to help get the chiefs to SB58 too. In fact I don’t think it would be a stretch to say we might not be in the SB without the defense this year. It makes for a heart warming storyline. I’m here for it

That is a perfect example of what "Because Chiefs" is all about.

I remember that game so well. He just missed another sack as Kreig slid up in the pocket and fired a rocket into the end xone for a TD. I think Rob Thomas caught it.

The no TD game for the Steelers against us stands out, beating the undefeated Packers one year, beating the undefeated 49ers with Steve Young was another, the Derrick Johnson strip sack of Mariotta was that a fumble bit stolen from us, no punt playoff loss, I could go on and on.
