I would think the issue of insurance would be taken care of at the time of the rental.. I’m not sure but I would think you couldn’t get the keys without proof of insurance or buying the rental company’s.. I wouldn’t rent a car worth thousands without some sort of protection…

Yeah - the rental company is gonna need to cool their heels a bit here.

It ain't like he's gonna sign an affidavit for them saying he was the driver to submit to their carrier (or his). And ultimately I'd have to think they'd have some sort of endorsement for these scenarios to protect THEMSELVES. This has nothing to do with Rice's ability to pay for the thing - they're out of a car right now. If they didn't have such a policy, that's on them.

And if he presented personal insurance with the appropriate coverages, well he ain't gonna put a claim in just yet on that either. He's gonna wait until the legal process plays out before he cooperates with his carrier there.

Cost of doing business for a sports car rental company. Sorry fellas - you were probably charging him 5% of what that sucker was worth for every day he had it out. If you weren't smart enough to use some of that money to protect yourselves from renters doing renter things in your hypercar, well that wasn't real bright.

"Drive it like you stole it" is pretty much how people treat rentals. Conduct yourself accordingly if you're on the other side of that transaction.

OK, I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on tv.... charges that can be a misdemeanor or a felony are called "wobblers".. not hybrids.

Lambos are really fragile when it comes to accidents. I have seen a flat tire cause an incredible amount of damage to one. It doesn't take much of an impact to put cracks in parts that cost an absurd amount of money to replace.

I agree with the statements that the rental company should have their own insurance to cover under or uninsured rentals. It is not rare that people do dumb stuff in rentals.

Traction control doesn't prevent everything and does help control a car; however, high horsepower cars can create issues for a traction control system due to how quickly things can happen in a short amount of time (especially at high speeds/racing, etc). Electronic Stability Control is supposed to help with this but user input can mess that up.

If they shut off the driver aids (they automatically revert to being on whenever you shut off the vehicle) then they were definitely playing with fire.
