Concerned -Pat Wouldn't be Pat if.....

I don't see Pat Mahomes being who he is today had he went to a premier football program instead of a more middling Texas Tech. TT, while a decent program, TT was far from an embarrassment of riches. Pat learned to adapt, improvise, and do without compared to say Bama, Florida, Texas, OK. We saw last year how Pat has learned to pull it off with less weapons and really, he looked better than ever working with less. Is anyone concerned that Pat loses a bit of his "resourcefulness" now that he has a stash of weapons? To me, Pat is best when he depends on Pat (and Kelce maybe). I hope I am wrong.

I'll take the OP seriously.

The OP is concerned that with all the superior talent Mahomes may well have around him, won't he lose the ability to pull off magic plays?

There's several reasons that this is poorly founded. One of them, and probably the biggest, is that Mahomes is a Dedication Machine who works obsessively to hone his craft. I doubt he'll lose one of his biggest strengths that makes him so much better than everyone else.

But the other reasons have to do with our team. Our team has problematic tackles still (until proven otherwise, though I suppose Taylor did during the playoff run). Kelce and Hollywood are going to be great weapons for Mahomes, but after that, everything's a question mark until Rice returns. Will Worthy get on the field, and what impact will he have? Watson and Hardman as deep threats/manufactured touches are good 3rd and 4th options, I guess? Toney and Moore were both colossal disappointments that basically defanged the offense last year. How will Rice look when he returns (I assume he'll look great)?

The Chiefs share a division with two very strong defenses in the Raiders and the Chargers, and the rest of their schedule is bodied out with some great passrushes and smart defensive coordinators.

This is not the 2007 Patriots or 2018 Chiefs, where it was basically a bulletproof offense. Mahomes will be challenged, teams will occasionally erase Kelce, teams will occasionally make life hell for our tackles. Mahomes will have to pull rabbits out of his hat for us to win those games.

Fortunately, he's the GOAT precisely because he's a Dedication Machine.

Mahomes has won a Super Bowl with stud weapons on offense, one with mediocre weapons (Kelce aside), and one with mostly dog shit weapons.

He good.

Thank you Direcshun and Zilla for the intelligent responses - now if we could just get rid of these Bob Fescoe wannabes, we could have a great offseason discussion!

I appreciate the thread and welcome to Chiefsplanet. I bet if you asked Pat when he is his best he would probably think it is when his back is against the wall and he doesn't have all the weapons as well.
Bingo. Last season was Pat's worst for stats, but I would argue it was his best season to date. Yes the defense was great, but it was PM's resourcefulness (with Andy) that brought us the Lombardi. No other QB does what he did last year. Pat was imprinted in doing more with less around him. Staying in some of those high scoring Big 12 shootouts with less talent around him made him the player he is today. This + Andy = MVP.

Not worried - suggesting something intelligent on this forum gets results much worse than waterboarding haha!

Intelligent discussion means a back-and-forth. All you did was say, "Hey guyz wut if Mahomez ever decidez 2 play bad footballlll?????" and then a couple people calmly explained why that was stupid. And then you didn't respond to them, push back, or even say, "You're right, that was foolish of me."

What you have isn't intelligent discussion. It's unintelligent discussion.

The fact that your first word in the thread title is "concerned" and then it's followed by a bunch of mindless drivel tells me you don't actually watch Chiefs football. You should never be allowed to start a thread again. You are and idiot. Moran.
