I just use a drip machine.
It’s summer now so I do cold brew. If you don’t want that much coffee, you can do a French press or a pour over cup. I’ve become a bit of a coffee snob. I have a post about it somewhere on here, but I went on a quest to find better coffee grounds, and ended up with buying whole beans and grinding them. There is just too much oxidation in pre ground stuff. Even prior to that, drip coffee was still better than K Cups IMO. My recommendation would be get a pour over rig, you can find them pretty cheap, like $20 cheap. If you like it better than the k cups then buy a grinder and start trying different kinds of beans. That's barely anything. There is a LOT to talk about with extraction. This is just an entry into the "coffee better than ****ing Maxwell House exists".
And I'm not super snobby. Pretty much all my coffee I drink comes from a rig under $20. I'm not buying high altitude ethiopian beans and roasting them myself or any of that shit. I pretty much stopped when I got the bitterness out of the brew. There is definitely diminishing returns when you get into coffee snobbery, but yeah, buying some dog**** off your shitheel grocery store shelf that was roasted and ground who the hell knows when isn't necessarily the answer. Plus, I gave him a cheap ass easy ass option to get out of the world of dogshit coffee. If he doesn't like it, he's out $20 and then can go back to K-Cups. |

I got one of these a few months ago and love it. I can do a full pot or just a single cup on the side and it's not a K cup. Its just a smaller basket and brews just like the full size one.

That looks like best way to do a pour over. You need to do the pour over slowly while keeping the water as hot as possible to get the most flavor out of the beans. I have a ChemEx pour over which is nice, but I have to use a separate pot to keep the water boiling during the time I’m making it. Pour overs are great, but they just take a little time and effort to make properly.

I then came to the conclusion that unless you are going gourmet, two coffee bags in not quite boiling water beats drip and is so much easier than poor over. And instead of having a pot of coffee go old, each cup is fresh. And doing fresh, okay coffee at home made me appreciate espresso drinks more on occasion when out. But they disappeared from my local grocer.

I have a 6-cup Hario V60 pour over I use to fill a 1-liter Gint carafe. It takes me 5 minutes to make enough coffee for a whole morning. Total equipment investment is $42. I also grind my own beans fresh daily, so the grinder is extra. It took some experimenting to find the best value bean and the right coffee-to-water ratio, but now I brew the best coffee to my taste simply, economically, and with zero plastic waste.
