AFC West has to be the division with the best coaches, right? Andy, Harbaugh, Payton, and now potentially a gifted player caller in Ben Johnson...

There’s currently no other destination that fits. Johnson has interviewed with the Raiders, Bears, Jaguars, and Patriots. The alignment he wants doesn’t exist in Jacksonville, and likely isn’t in play with the Bears. Unless the Cowboys (who blew their window to interview Johnson at any time before the Lions’ season ends because they didn’t interview him via Zoom last week) make a late run, it’s the Raiders or the status quo for Johnson.

More and more people in league circles believe it will be the Raiders.

A report on Tuesday claimed Ben Johnson wanted nothing to do with Daniels prior to the 2024 draft and that was the reason the Commanders turned their plane around and chose not to consider him for their head-coaching job.

I don’t know if it’s been talked about publicly but the story that I got with what happened was they were en route. Adam Peters and them were en route to Detroit for the interview in conversation with Ben Johnson. It was brought up that Ben Johnson still wanted Sam Howell. That’s who he wanted to be his quarterback for his offense. And you know, there’s Carolina connections, all that stuff,” Washington insider Lake Lewis Jr. said on the Rambling with Rio Johnson podcast.

“And Adam Peters was like, ‘No,’ because they know who they’re going to draft, and we all knew who they were going to draft, and he didn’t want [Daniels]… So what I’m saying is kudos to Adam Peters for holding his guns and saying, ‘No, we know who we’re drafting, and that’s who you’re going to have to build with.’ And that’s the story that I got. It was Adam Peters just said turn that plane around.”

Look, I like Sam Howell as a QB probably way more than I should, but even I'm not so stupid as to present my plan to my new team as, "The midround 1st year starter who didn't win you jack shit last year? Yeah, just use that guy!"

Nobody was telling Johnson he had to get rid of Howell. He could have kept him around, drafted the QB, and tested the theory to see if he was correct that Howell was actually the better guy.

This guy is Nick Sirriani level dumb. Probably less of an asshole, but just as dumb.

Clark is about to be 60. He’ll be in his 70’s when Mahomes is retired. Based on what we know, I would assume his 3 kids will manage the team together as a succession plan.

Yeah we’ll need people like Mahomes and Kelce to help us out at that point

IF he takes that job and it is a big if at this point, I think it would safe to conclude that 1) he trusts Brady, 2) it is one of the few positions where he can bring in someone he trusts as GM and 3) the right situation was never about a QB.
