The Royals in 2015 had the 7th highest paid 26 man roster in the entire 30 team league. The Royals won because they spent more money than most teams. In fact, the Marlins are the only team in the past 30 years to win the World Series being in the bottom third of payroll.

The NFL has a salary cap. It only has 4 year rookie contracts instead of 6 like the MLB. There is no draft lottery in the NFL. It's hard to stay on top and I like it that way. Teams should have to earn greatness. In the NFL greatness is punished to eccourage parity, as it should be.

Royals payroll in 2015 was 17th, not 7th.

For one thing, the MLB roster was not 26 players in 2015.

Are you talking about the "ACTIVE" roster? Because that doesn't mean shit. Active roster payroll just removes injured player salaries from the payroll list (as well as retained and dead/released money).

The Royals didn't win because they spent more money than most teams. They were middle of the pack in spending - slightly below median - and in injured player salary.

That's subjective. You are entitled to that opinion. From my perspective, how much money you are spending on the actual 25 men who take the goddamn field does matter. A dude on the IL isn't winning you jack shit.

This isn’t subjective.

The Royals didn’t win in 15 because they suddenly jacked payroll up to new levels and spent in the top 10 in baseball.

You want to talk about them winning because they got a little luckier with health that year than other good teams come the end of the season, you might have a bit of an observation.

But they spent significantly more than 2015 in 2016 and 2017 on “active roster” and total payroll and were .500 both years.

No one analyzes active payroll for MLB because it is meaningless except as an observation on the health of a team.
