The Chargers are playing the long game. Get the QB and Tackles first. Then get the weapons. Tackles can play at a high level until 35. Slater and Alt aren't going anywhere for the next decade.

What do you think the Bengals have done, picked their ass?

They signed Reiff and Collins to 1-year deals and tried to get a 4th rounder to work in D'Ante Smith. Those decisions got the Bengals to the SB and the AFCC despite some subpar O-line play. Speaking of Smith, he was looking like an okay swing, but injuries, and he just tore his patellar (sounds familiar). They drafted Amarius Mims to man the RT spot last year in the 1st.

It's really hard to build the entirety of a roster from the draft, and one thing or another is going to suffer along the way.

The Chargers aren't the model because they haven't even made the playoffs as a contender. They got a couple of wildcards and got their asses smashed. At least the Bengals were competitive and probably will get back to being so again.

And you know what, it took 4 years after the Chargers drafted their QB before they addressed RT in the draft. You know how long it took the Bengals? 4 years. So, what are we even discussing this for?

I think Joe Alt is a future All Pro and so is Slater. The Chargers are playing the long game.

The long game? LOL. They sucked shit enough to get the #5 pick in the most loaded OT draft of the past 20 years after bombing two 1sts on an OG and a WR following their pick of Slater.

Since you're going to question the Bengals, why didn't your Chargers take a RT in those drafts? They could have taken Trevor Penning in 2022 instead of Nelson. They could have taken Anton Harrison in 2023 instead of Johnston.

What's your excuse? That's right, it doesn't fit your narrative and use of revisionist history.

There is no narrative. I have a different team building philosophy than you do. I value offensive tackle play a lot more than receiver play.

No, we don't really differ on that. I've been adamant about OT for a while. I don't think any and every OT is worth it, but there have been ones I've really wanted in Darrisaw, Fautanu, and Conerly of late for KC. I do think building out the tackle position is the most important thing after QB.

That said, you can also build a team in both FA and the draft. If a team already has a LT and wants to go playmaker before RT in the draft, I don't think it's a bad decision to backfill RT in FA like the Bengals did. Especially given that Chase was widely considered a relative generational talent at WR.

Bad decisions on the interior OL also factor in. You can't be total shit across the board from LG to RG at the same time and that's as much an issue that the Bengals ran into as anything.

Do you think the Chiefs should’ve benched Mahomes and their best players for a season so they could have landed a top 5 pick to grab a real tackle?
