This is why I can't get into the WNBA because every social media post turns into a race war between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark fans. And secondly, there are WNBA people that go out of their way to shit on Clark when she has elevated the sport, put more money in the pot and she is by all accounts someone you'd want your daughter to be.

Clark didn't go to a "small" Catholic school, she went to Dowling. It's the 2nd largest enrollment in their conference, IIRC. I don't think it's all that indicting that she didn't win a championship though, Valley dominates in everything even with Dowling "recruiting" top athletes.

I doubt that's the reason you cant get into the WNBA. That's not unique to the WNBA. The sport just sucks. The fact that Angel Reese is a pro athlete is shocking. When the talent pool is so bad that a fish out of water is one of the 200 or so best to do it, the sport ****ing sucks.

Agreed. But with a footnote that it's also invited a lot of vile shit on the other side too. Even if I don't like Reese or the WNBA gatekeeping, a lot of that trolling is way over the line. The issue is that: 1) the WNBA continues to turn a blind eye to the Clark hate. At some point they need to call out the mob against Clark too and stop making this one sided. 2) the whole league and media needs media training. And have to recognize the reality that social media is not real life and feeding trolls only worsens the issue; 3) they need to get the old guard of media gatekeepers in line. Put up or shut up. They are the last sport to deplatform those who rage bait on social issues for clicks. Their only relevance is to create outrage. They need to control the message, the same way every single league has done it to where controversy has mostly been minimalized of late

I mean, that's pretty ridiculous. We watch inferior athletes all the time. Hasn't stopped us from enjoying womens Olympics or tennis or women's world cup soccer. Women's basketball is extremely popular on the college level but just hasn't popped on the pro level until now. Hell, MLS has become hugely popular even if it's nowhere near European league soccer. Competition is competition. There are plenty of good players in the WNBA who are exciting to watch. I think a big reason for Clarks popularity surge is actually with men who find her game a lot more similar to the men's game. Angel Reese is not a bad player. She's legit an excellent rebounder and defender. it's just that NBA fans don't try to treat Clint capela like an mvp.

The ratings and popularity are ascending. They just clearly have no idea how to handle that success just yet and the old guard would rather kill the golden goose versus actually lean into the growth

That is what most people try to do. Except ESPN and the media run campaigns calling those people, "backwards and misogynistic."

They know the product can't sell itself, so they resort to shaming tactics and jamming it everywhere. ESPN isn't running campaigns for the UFL saying you aren't a real football fan if you don't watch the Battlehawks-Stallions game.

You are going into a thread about a sport you don't watch to announce to the world that you don't care about the sport. That's weird stuff. If you don't like the sport then don't participate and certainly don't gripe about people who watch it. If you are not part of the "we" then why are you even here?

Just because women's sports ratings don't get men's ratings doesn't mean that they aren't very popular in their own right. Especially when you're talking Caitlin Clark who is legit pulling men's ratings and is one of the top marketed athletes out there regardless of sports or gender.
