School's out for Summer!-AMA-Update

I said I would.

But a few classroom rules.
1. The answer to the obligatory question. No
2. There are no stupid questions-just stupid people that ask questions.
3. Teacher has the right to suspend you.
4. Teacher can take regular quarter and holiday breaks.

Sounds like it's time to drop of a loaded (shat on) paper plate in her desk for the summer.

I keep in touch with my old wrestling coach who also teaches match. He was dealing with a student who was being a smart ass because he couldn't he couldn't answer a basic algebra question and he said "well, at least your shirt is bright" (he was apparently wearing a bright orange shirt) and was reprimanded after the student reported the incident.

Is it really that bad? I mean you can't bust a kids balls even so slightly.

In some places--yes. Any thing that could offend, insult, hurt the self-esteem---is bad and you can be reprimanded for it.

Politics here-but it is my thread.....especially when liberal policies take effect.

Students come first. Defend the student All other be damned. Admin loves to micromanage professionals. I know it is taught in admin school.

Getting that now.. "I heard from the students that......"

Did you come in and see or are you just taking what you hear from kids talking in the hall and using that as gospel?

I'm not sure if this is a question to me but as mentioned above it was a brief story from my old wrestling coach who teaches math.

Just drop us an email address and let CP do its thing. Pretty sure we can run them out of town.

I am on the job hunt again.

My job is being reduced to 0.8 Why?

a. There are just not as many kids around
B. (most importantly) at least 20 kids in 8th grade are being syphoned off so the 7th grade teacher can have her special science class and keep her full time or more.

The last few years-I have realized-My principal has favorites--and I am not one of them. She has an inner circle. I am on the outside. Those on the outside see it. Those on the inside-dont.
Favorite 7th grade teacher gets to do what she wants. Out of the circle 8th grade teacher gets screwed. I have gone weeks without my existence being acknowledged.

I have interviewed for the 9th grade Earth Science in my school-which is what I am good at. I wanted this class 4 years ago-when it should have started.(long story) My current students signed a petition in support of me teaching that class and a few wrote letters to the HS principal. It has been 2.5 weeks and no one has talked to me about the job.

I have also interviewed in a couple of other places and applied to others.

Also looking at outside of education--again.

Principal and I have a year end meeting next week. We will see how it goes. But I have been told I have no other opportunities in the Junior High.

I am tired

ugh
This is hard for me to read. I hope things get better. Doesn't sound like a great situation unfortunately.

I don't have position movement problems, but administration across the district is weak and ineffective. They just want to move kids through and not have to deal with parents.

I've got 4 days and at least 11 more years left.

It is really that bad. A lot of kids are raised by youtubers their own age, who also don't understand sarcasm or playful teasing.

My district is pretty right down the middle politically (going by makeup of the school board) and we have similar issues. At least here, it doesn't seem to be an issue of of left or right, it is shitty parenting.

Teachers are big mean bullies if we give consequences for poor behavior or reprimand a student in just slightly the wrong tone or in the presence of too many other people.

I had a mother call me from her cell phone in the car out front of the school earlier in the year. Her daughter was upset that I questioned her in the hall (out of earshot of classmates, only one other teacher was standing there) when she showed up late carrying a soda (not allowed in my class). Mother was basically accusing me of targeting and picking on her kid because I wanted to hold her accountable for breaking several rules.

Another mother called me on her phone from the car when I wouldn't let her daughter leave before her bus was called (a strict policy in our building that apparently only I enforce). I told her you'd be pretty mad at me if I ignored your kid and let her walk off and something happened to her.

It is difficult raising these people's kids to have manners and to be socially aware and also leaving them alone to do whatever they want at the same time.

Hopefully all of those went to voice mail. Not dealing with that shit during class.

Parents just dont understand what teachers have to do in a day. Over 1500 decisions. My brain is ****ed at the end of the day.
There are very few jobs where it is 25-1 or 36-1 ratio where the supervisor cannot just let people work. Dont get me started on what bus drivers deal with.

As you can tell from DJ's post-anything that is perceived as a confrontation to a student, even though it is inside the expectations of the school, is an affront for parents. How dare you.......X. Especially in public schools.

Then there are many admin that make rules and REFUSE to enforce them, running the bus over the teacher in the process. They are spinless and afraid of parents.

What the **** are they afraid of? that the kid goes to another school and they are out the money? Lawsuit? Good luck. Sue me because I would not let your kid leave early and get run over.

Why the **** do we kowtow to nut case parents????? Instead, we come down on teachers and put astronomical expectations on them for everything out of their control.

BTW-I am also looking outside of education again. IF you know anyone in the MPLS area looking for someone to hire-I may be the guy. I can do a lot of things.
