I'll go with Steely Dan over and over and over, and twice on Sundays. There is no contest here. Steely Dan has written some of the best music ever to be recorded in a studio, and they are the ONLY Rock n' Roll band to seemlessly fuse jazz and rock and have it sound damn good.

Plus, I'v seen Steely Dan in concert, and they were fantastic.

As for Fleetwood Mac, I like them too, but they are much more of pop-rock genre. That is, they sound good and sold alot of albums.

Both are great bands, but IMO, Steely Dan rules. I still listen to my Steely Dan CDs all the time, whereas I just listen to the radio if I want to here some Mac...
