I'd sign him for veterans minimum, and thats it. Nothing more. He's steadily declined.

i was gonna post about the same thing. But not
about an article.During an interview with carter before the chiefs/titans game he was raving about gun and how much he cares and admires him.he was saying how gun was going to be the main factor in fixing our d. I believe he will want to come to KC because of gun.And because hes a rams castoff Im sure DV will be all for it.(Didnt DV draft carter).Im not sure if that would be a good or bad thing.

They say he's good "in the community". He fits the "profile". But I think he'd be a waste of money. He's another Holliday.

according to NFL.com he has had 27 tackles (plus 20 assists, which seems a dubious stat) and 6 sacks each of the last two years.
I'd take him if he were cheap...even a crusty old vet like him has better numbers than Sims.

I don't understand the 'bust' label that people are using with Carter. He had one really bad season with the Titans (his first) but has put up solid, but not spectacular, numbers his last 3 years.
He seems to be pretty consistent and number wise his stats are better than Browning, Sims, Siavii and Dalton. However, there were reports yesterday that he is the Titans #1 choice to be resigned. Since the KC defensive coaches are rumored to have difficulty comprehending and implementing Gunther's scheme, I think it would be key to have a player who understands it.

Would we look at him as a DT or a DE? He played both in Tenn. We really don't need another DT, unless it was a sure-fire, in-his-prime star. We've got Dalton who was the best guy there last year, Sims who IMO we have to give one more, make-or-break year, and we have to give Siavii another year to develop.
We need a pass-rushing LDE. Is that Kevin Carter? I seriously doubt it. Especially with DV's buttboy still at the top of the depth chart. |

At DE you have Hicks who the team likes and fans loathe, Allen a good up and coming player, Wilkerson who hasn't shown much and Stills who is just a situational pass rusher with limited impact. If Allen, and even arguably Hicks went down with an injury the Chiefs would be in serious trouble. At DT you have Dalton who played fairly well last year, Browning who played well, and underachieving Sims and an extremely raw Siavii. Carter, if signed, might be the best DT on the team.

He couldn't do much even when lined up opposite of Kearse...that says a lot to me.

I think LB and CB are bigger needs that can be addressed thru FA. I think we could improve DL depth via the draft, especially with a pass-rushing DE (Pollack?) who would be available at No. 15 and who could get good reps playing behind someone like Hicks. |

32 years old. On the downside of his career. Too big and slow to play end now.

I look at it this way. If we end up signing Kevin Carter, it will be like we swapped Holliday for Carter. Which is a very good swap IMO. Carter put up better stats than all of our DT's last season. He has also been successfull at DE.
We aren't always going to be able to pull the young, impact players out of FA. A vet like Carter that knows Gun's system could be very valuable at the right price. Look at what the reactions were to Lionel Dalton when we signed him. Most thought he wouldn't make the team over Eddie Freeman/Eric Downing. Carter could be a good get at the right price. |
