KFFL: Surtain to KC

Dolphins | Surtain Shipped to Kansas City; Draft Pick Acquired - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 22 Apr 2005 06:51:46 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to trade CB Patrick Surtain to the Kansas City Chiefs for a second-round draft choice. The two teams will also swap picks in the fifth-round. The two sides still need to finalize paper work on the deal and it is also contingent upon Surtain passing a physical with Kansas City.

edit - damnit repost, sorry, I even tried to find it on the front page first

Heh. Or, Surtain's alleged degenerative knee condition turns out to be more serious than Rolle's spine.

I say thank you Al Davis -- I was of the opinion that Surtain was worth the 2nd pick and should have been done all along. Al's move helped Carl come to his senses. Given previous selections in the draft, we would never have picked a Surtain quality player with the 2nd pick

It's not a matter of Surtain not being worth a 2. It's a matter of Miami being a motivated seller. We still could have had him for at least what I said (or involving a swap of 3rds) if not for the rumors of The Raiders or the Donks getting interested. I said it in another thread, and I stand by it. Our AFC West opponents drove up the price for us by bluffing us. I bet they are loving it.

Now that we have surtain we need to pick up a linebacker or a badass D lineman. We need to pressure the QB and our DT arent going to get the job done on run defense.

I hear you, but let's not give them that satisfaction. If we have learned anything from our advisary posters, it is how to spin this in our favor.

I actually think the pressure was there most of the time. Our problem was just before our D-line got to the QB he found an open receiver and completed a 3rd and long every freaking time.

I'd still love to see the pick in the first round be Carlos Rogers, but I would take Thomas Davis, a LB, or even a WR.

They are loving it, now that we got Surtain? I don't buy that at all.

We pressured from the outside last year which let the quarterback step up in the pocket for an extras couple seconds. That is why they let people complete so many 3rd and longs. With a good DT we could get a push up the middle that would not allow the QB to step up in the pocket. Hopefully the DT we get will take double teams to allow Bell to rush throught the middle for about 15 sacks this year. A corner would be ok but we have other places that we could use that pick for after the acquistion of PS. Most likely we will pick the best player on the board at 15 if we still have the pick.

I wish we could have got him for our 4th, but still a good deal for us! Plus this should stop at least a few of the Bartee/Surtain threads.
