Vic Carucci's Analysis
Baas figured to be taken at this spot or thereabouts, but his stock was rising to the point where I thought he might even end up as a low first-round pick. He is a very strong, instinctive and extremely intelligent football player. If he plays center, he is the perfect guy to have anchoring your offensive line because he will make all of the right calls and the right decisions.

Pat Kirwan's Analysis
A first-round talent and the best free safety in this draft. I had questions about him after the USC National Championship Game, but when I looked back at other game tapes, he is an excellent draft prospect. When Cleveland cleaned house at safety, this pick made sense. I had a first-round grade on him, but Cleveland better start getting some defensive linemen.

Carucci on Pool: This is a tremendous value pick for the Browns. Pool is a first-round talent, has great coverage ability and is ready to step in and contribute significantly as a rookie. His presence will make a difference at a position where the Browns were in dire need of improvement.

Pat Kirwan's Analysis
One of the two Georgia receivers in this draft that created a terrific passing attack in Georgia. In talking to the Eagles coaches, they wanted him to be there in the second round. He has good speed and good athleticism. He impressed me at the Senior Bowl with his route running and his hands. He snatches the football. He needs some work on routes over the middle, but in an interview I had with him, he convinced me he was willing to work at it. This should spell the end of Freddie Mitchell's stay in Philadelphia. A very good pick.

Carucci on Brown: Reggie Brown has plenty of athletic ability, especially speed. The big question with him is, does he have the motivation to realize his full potential? He hasn't shown it on a consistent basis in college. Andy Reid and the Eagles' coaching staff are capable of pushing him to produce more as a professional.

Ruud is an intelligent, versatile player. He was a player who could easily have been taken low in the first round, so he represents a pretty good value for the Buccaneers.

Pat Kirwan's Analysis
Cody should have been a first-round pick because he can play defensive end, play defensive tackle in a 3-4, and will absolutely make an impact for the Lions. Anyone who blocks five field goals in college deserves to be a starter. He is a 295-pound guy who is capable of five to seven sacks his rookie year. He got hurt and fell this far because he ran a sluggish 5.0-flat 40-yard dash after not running at the combine. Detroit trades up, and that should say it all.

Gil Brandt's Analysis
Routt is a world-class sprinter. He's a big corner with unbelieveably good times in the cone and short shuttle. He was under 4.37 in the 40. This is a really good pick because he's fast and tough.

Gil Brandt's Analysis
Bradley is one of the fastest players in the draft. His dad, Danny, was a starter at Oklahoma. Bradley started school at Arkansas-Pine Bluff and played there for two years before transferring. In high school, he high jumped over 7-foot-6 and is a tremendous athlete. He doesn't have the best hands in the world, but that can be improved. Speed can't.

Gil Brandt's Analysis
In 2003, Bullocks set a Big 12 Conference record with 12 interceptions, which is impressive. He will play safety for the Saints. He comes from an athletic family -- his twin brother also plays football but is still in school.

He was born in Estonia and moved to the U.S. in the sixth grade. He's a big, tall tackle that can play on the left side. He's got size, good foot agility and long arms.

Gil Brandt's Analysis
Burnett is part of Tennessee history -- he's the first two-time captain in 100 years. He was a high-school running back and had a better year in 2003 than 2004, partly because of injuries. This is a very good athlete.

Intercepted 14 balls in two years, but had a shoulder operation. Going into his final year, he was considered one of the top players available, but was really exposed against Georgia. Played injured most of the year.

Arrington played high school football in North Carolina, then spent two years in junior college in California before landing at Cal. He gained over 2,000 total yards in 2004. He's a good receiver coming out of the backfield, but not real tall.

Tatupu's father played in the league for over 10 years. His first year of school was at Maine, then transferred to USC. He has got great recognition and feel to play the position.

Roth is a high-school fullback that switched to linebacker and then defensive end at Iowa. His motor runs all the time. He really did a goiod job rushing the passer from the strong side. He has pretty good speed, good ability and won't play the game at half speed.

Gil Brandt's Analysis
Nugent was a high school QB and a great kicker under pressure at Ohio State the past two years. At one time, he had a consecutive streak of 20 field goals considering the wind at Buckeye Stadium. Dating back to 1967, he is the seventh-highest pick as a kicker over that period of time.

He's a compact football player and an outstanding competitor. He will do a good job on kicking teams and probably on defense. He is the middle linebacker of the future for this franchise.

I thought Johnson would be a possible first-round pick. I don't think he can play left tackle, but right tackle is a possibility. Ironically, two linemen from Mississippi got selected in the first 40 picks -- kind of unusual.

He started school at Central Michigan and transferred to Howard. Why? He told me that his mother wanted him to have a good education. He can probably play cornerback if he slims down and can play safety as well (played both at Howard).

Collins played safety but can play corner, which he did last year. He's very fast with very good speed and size. He's a small-college player with big-time potential.

This guy initally was a D-lineman at Washington. In a period of time, they moved him to offense. He's a very athletic player but missed some games with a hand injury. He doesn't have a lot of sand in him, meaning he doesn't have a lot of lower-body weight.

Pat Kirwan's Analysis
Baltimore is returning to a 4-3 defense and need help at tackle but they couldn't resist Cody's high motor as an end. They'll find their tackle later. I know Ray Lewis has some influence with who gets drafted, and he won't have any problems with Cody. A little stiff, but he will compete at left defensive end. Could easily get six to eight sacks as a rookie and could play on special teams.

Pat Kirwan's Analysis
Eric is a 246-pound running back who ran his 40 in 4.5. In a rotation in Louisville, he hit the end zone 30 times. Teams like Dallas had interest in this guy, and he's a good role player. In Carolina, this might spell the end of Stephen Davis. With the Carolina offense, he could also fit in as a "move" tight end. An excellent value pick at this point.

Interesting pick here, considering the Bills have a Pro-Bowl returner already and they're in need of a tight end, left tackle and defensive tackle. The critics will say Parrish's short arms will limit him, but he's a playmaker and they'll find a way to get him the ball. Expect him to give Buffalo what the Jets got from Santana Moss. My partner, Gil Brandt, likes the pick.

This is an explosive, 5-8 1/2 cornerback who will get the duty as the slot CB. His 4.3-flat 40 and his toughness tell me he'll be a blitzer in Larry Coyer's defense. As Gil Brandt said, if he were 5-11, he'd be a first-round pick.

Pat Kirwan's Analysis
I am sure that Miller had a first-round grade in all 32 draft rooms, but multiple off-field incidents dropped him to this position. How smart of the Jets to take the kicker first and come back for Miller in this round. With Donnie Abraham probably retiring, he's a natural fit. And with Santana Moss gone to Washington, he's an instant impact player as a return (8 TDs on returns, including two against Florida State).

Murphy was a QB in high school and came to Texas A&M and was converted to a receiver. He set records for passes caught as a freshman and is also a very good kick returner. He's strong, he's tall and he has top speed.

Babineaux came to Iowa as a fullback and even started two games there as a freshman. He's probably got most of his football ahead of him. Very good speed for a 290 pounder (4.9 in the 40).

Gil Brandt's Analysis
Hayden was an Chicago player who wound up at Illinois as a receiver but switched to defensive back. He has incredible speed with good coverage ability.

Kirwan on Hayden: Always remember -- when you're dealing with the Colts, they score often and early. As Bill Polian told me tonight, "We force our opponents into third down and two-minute offenses early in games. We play nickel and dime defense more than 60 percent of the time and don't have enough good players."

Jackson was an interesting prospect at the Senior Bowl. He's boig enough to be considered a TE but he insists he wants to be a receiver. His 146 receptions and 32 touchdowns says he deserves that chance first. I like him as a red zone mismatch threat on the fade route, and he is tough enough to move to tight end early in his career.

McCoy wasn't invited to the combine. If you look at the Michigan film, he was credited with 16 unassisted tackles. Very good speed, high-production player and also should be a very good special teams player.

Terry was a four-year starter as a left tackle. I'm not sure he has left tackle quickness, but I think he can play right tackle and do a pretty good job at it.

I agree Surtain is a stud and will help this d. However, how many people would have traded a stud cb for Jerry Rice before he played a game? How many would have after his first couple of seasons?
