Major Concerns?

For me, it has to be the Offense. I see steady improvement in the Defense. They are still a long way from good, but I like the trend. Unfortunately, there has been very little consistency from the Offense.

The Chiefs Defense is not going to stop the Chargers Offense. We can slow them down. We can key on Tomlinson and force Brees to win the game. We can blitz like mad and pummel Brees. But we are not going to shut the Chargers down.

The game will turn on how many times the Chiefs Offense pulls a Houdini.

Really sound assessment. Wish I could be as vague.

The defensive secondary, more specifically, the assignments in the DS is what scares me most. Provided that Jared Allen is fully out of preschool and that Eric Hicks is not just happy to be on the field, the D-Line should function well. The D tackles can plug the holes. The soft zone will keep the wrong unit from being on the field, unless we tighten up the coverage.

Anyone who read Priest Holmes' thoughts in the Star today, knows that the O can and will drive. What AS is doing, is giving Martyball back to Marty, and making Marty pass the ball. Meanwhile, second down for the Bolts means it's Drew Brees in the middle of sh*t sandwich, with the D ends being the bread. Brees can't run, and taking away the TE slant means he can't hide.

Off tackle, off Willie Roaf, will be the play-du-jour. I look forward to seeing Marty handed his game plan back in his lap, and there ain't a thing he'll be able to do about it. Running the ball on one count is the surest thing to do against the crowd. They will be too busy boo-ing the Bolts' defense to stop PH and LJ.

My concern is definitely the play calling. We've lost 2 games. One was a total suck-fest in every phase. The second one, aside from the turnovers, you can pretty much attribute directly to the awful play calling, like that ESPN article showed a few weeks ago. Not only did we get away from what had been working to that point, but we stalled our offense and kept our defense on the field way too long.

I'm not concerned about the offense. When they go out there, line up, and can't run the ball on anyone, I'll start getting concerned. But when we come on the field to start a drive and I see an empty backfield and some stupid little pass play that gets us nothing, I don't think "man, our offense is struggling", I think "man, I wish AS would get his head out of his ass".

Even the Z-level CBS broadcast team for the Miami game was questioning the play calling last week. If we go out tomorrow and try to be cute, it'll lose us the game barring some total meltdown by the Chargers. There's nothing wrong with passing, and we'll probably do a lot of it with San Diego's pass D as weak as it is. But set it up with the run. No more of this "let's start this drive by passing, they won't expect it" crap for 3-4 straight drives.

I think we can win, but I don't want to see it blown by poor coaching moves again.

I'll be impressed if we get 6 yards/carry tomorrow.

And I'll be real impressed if we do it without throwing the ball.

Coaches.

Both Gun and AS can be stubborn.

Our best defense is our offense controlling time of possession. The less time our D is on the field the better they look.

The Offensive perfomance last week put me at ease a bit. The TG to TG connection hasnt shown up yet but I that will come around pretty soon. The Defense is still gelling and shows improvement every week. I was happy that Warfield wasnt exploited in his return to the starting lineup. It's all downhill for Warfield from here on out.

my main concern is the special teams. the kicking is looking very good to date but I'd like to see more error-free KR and PR. If we can do that, we have the ability to return any kick and force teams to kick short
and/or do things they normally wouldnt. If the opposition is doing things they ordinarily wouldnt; it increases the chance that they will make mistakes.

I wanted to vote Coaching but with that not an option I went for defense because I expect LaDanian to bounce back big time from last weeks embarrassment to the Eagles.

My choice as well. I feel the main suckage factor in our losses (paticularly in the Philly loss) was due to lack of adjustment on both sides of the ball.

2nd place for me is the continuation of the D-line pressure. Nice game in Miami, but one game does not a trend make. Contrary to JW's article, Frerotte struggled more due to pressue than lack of his Div 1 talent. If we can continue to mix up and disquise the blitzes like last week, I will feel much better about the D.

should had coaching as a option. but the offense worries me the most. maybe because they havent had to many great games yet. after watching our defense $uck up the feild for three years now one gets use to it. so any improvement is a plus.

I went with the Special Teams option - no particular reason I just think it's probably their turn to screw things up.

Offense. We have some talent at WR but we really need a WR threat that other teams have to respect. Until we either sign a WR (that hasn't been proving too easy in the DV era either) or one or two of the guys we have matures into a stud WR, our WRs won't be respected and until other teams respect our WRs, they will keep double teaming (and holding) Tony and blitzing Green.

I do see improvements with the healthy O Line and with Saunders starting to realize that this O hinges on the RBs so get the ball in their hands.

Ive been saying it for awhile GAZ, this team is built with an "Offense 1st" mentality and always will be as long as DV is in charge. Thats where most of the talent and big money is located. When the offense is inconsistant and doesnt show up we rarely win. When the offense plays well and the D can just slow the other team down a lil bit, then we can beat anyone.
