Trent Green's Post Game Press Conference

QB Trent Green - On Raiders' defense: "Charles Woodson is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, you got to give him his credit. Eric Allen has played in the league for a long time, he's established and a reliable corner. Our game plan coming in was taking advantage of the Michael Ricks & Tony Gonzalez match up. They did a good job on that today, they doubled Tony (Gonzalez) a lot. We weren't able to utilize some of that stuff early on. That was the frustrating part that our defense was playing so well early. When you look at time of possession, the amount of time we left the defense on the field, that falls on the offense's shoulders when it's the fourth quarter and your defense is on the field that much. We can't afford to leave them out there out long."
On the fumbled snap: "It's a thing where you could point fingers and blame a number of different things. We can't have fumbled snaps. It's something we've talked about since camp and it's obviously drawn some attention during camp. It's not fair to point fingers at any one person. "I haven't had a fumbled snap all preseason. With Brian (Waters) coming in last week when Casey (Wiegmann) had his surgery, we went through the whole St. Louis game and didn't have any problems. We went through a whole week of practice and didn't have any problems. Those were huge plays; because one, we had some momentum going and the second one was very costly. We had an opportunity to get a field goal at the end of the half, and then they turn around get a field goal after that."

On the officiating: "They had some really good calls, and they had some not so good calls. I think if you look at both sides of the ball, we had a lot of mistakes on our side and came up with
some big plays as well as the Raiders had four turnovers and made some plays when it counted. To say they did any differently than both teams played, they made some mistakes just like we did. They need some room for error just like we do."

No, I said that. I was merely responding to the party line tone of another individual's comments.

I don't want to offend anyone, because I'm passionate about my son and I'm passionate about football. But I'm a parent also.

It's like Trent can't read the coverage, and then when he finally gets it, it's too l

This was the comment I was refering to when I said "finger pointing". Ethelyn, I like Mike! I'm glad he's on the team and was disapointed he and Gonzo were not utilized in tandem more often yesterday. Brock, To say "Trent Green played poorly." sounds alot less like finger pointing then the other statement. But alot of the players could have played better yesterday so let's wait until we lose two or three in a row before we extend our digits in the direction of specific players.

It did look like he didn't understand what was going on. The general consensus in the area in which I was sitting, that he did wait a long time (a couple of times) before he threw the ball. The receivers were sometime doubled and tripled coverage.

I don't have a problem finger pointing...

We lost because the offense was inconsistent at best. The qb, the rb's, and the wr's were inconsistent or completely absent.

Our rushing yardage was pathetic.

Our wr's and qb never got in a groove, for whatever reason.

Our run blocking was horrendous.

No single player on offense played well consistently. Many players like Gonzo, Ricks, and Menace made big plays. But no one consistently played well on offense.

The entire offense as a whole played poorly....

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I agree Ethelyn, Trent did hold the ball a little long a few times but I don't think it was just because of him as much as it is what Brad posted. The point I'm trying to make is that there is plenty of blame to go around and it should be shared by all the players and coaches. I guess it's the use of the word "can't" that I disaprove of. Let's hope next week that Trent and Mike hook up for a couple of TDs. I think we both know that they "can".

I just hope that with the mistakes that were made against the Raiders won't happen against Seattle. Seattle didn't score a touchdown - the Chiefs lost a game, should be pretty interesting.

I wouldn't say he held on to the ball too long. Did he get sacked alot? No, so he held on to the ball to give the recievers time to get open, and still had to throw the ball away alot. He did get hit pretty hard a couple times, but I think he was only sacked once or twice. Good pass protection. We need to run block though.
