I have a lunch crowd that comes in my bar and if I know the patron is a non-smoker I myself will refrain from smoking till they have finished their lunch and left. Common courtesy goes a long ways.

Would you say that you are the exception or the rule?

In my experience very, very few smokers are this courteous.

I would never smoke around a non-smoker when he/she was eating. Hell, I didn't like to smoke when I was eating, although I knew people who did. I also always went out of my way not to blow smoke in the direction of non-smokers. With reasonable people, this generally worked. The problem is, the first casualties of the banning mindset are reason and compromise.

Yeah, I'm pretty torn on the issue. I know around here places needed a kick in the ass to do something, no business was willing to be the first place that went non-smoking. I'm all for allowing a business to declare itself a smoking establishment. I think a lot of owners were just looking for someone else to blame as to why you couldn't light up.

I'll ask this question again:

Do you consider yourself the exception or the rule?

I want to get an answer from a smokers (or ex-smokers) perspective.

I would have to say yes. I don't smoke when i'm eating. I sit in the non-smoking section most of the time because I have kids. Also if some asshole lit up around me when my kids are there they would get a ear full.

EX-Smoker's perspective.

Honestly, I don't know. I was probably more mindful of it and considerate than most.

I believe in the concept of reasonable expectation. If you go in a bar where most of the patrons smoke, you shouldn't expect everybody to bend to your will. It's not like there weren't non-smoking bars/restaurants before the ban. Non-smokers could go there. Must non-smokers control every single bar and restaurant? Sorry, but I just don't buy into this dumbassdannazifan idea that everybody has to alter their lives just because I don't like something.

I've alway's been nice about not smoking people that don't. So cause some other people do it I must do it? Sterotyping at its best.
