But I have been pimping Albert as an OT for a while now, though I didn't want to reach for him at 5.

I think he's going to be the best LT, along with Chris Williams, in this draft.
A potential perennial pro bowler.

That, combined with my belief that Herb Taylor is going to surprise most here and prove to be a really good RT, going into next year's draft, I won't be salivating over the prospect of drafting Oher like I would have been otherwise.

Dont worry. With the number one pick next year he'll be available. Trouble is, The King will probably draft another S.

I look at it this way, Steve Hutchison was drafted with the 17th pick in 2001. He was strictly a guard. So we grab Albert at 15, and if he is strictly a guard I think the pick still has a lot of value. Now I believe he will be a great LT. Bringing him in at LT next to Brian Waters gives us a huge left side of the line to pass protect and to carve out holes for LJ. And don't forget that means we upgraded at RT by moving McIntosh over there.

We swapped 3rd round pick (Moved down 10 spots) and gave them a 5th.

I'd rather have Albert over William, Clady, Otah and the rest of the bunch.
I don't disagree about Dorsey.

Albert's the big risk here.

It'd be one thing if we dropped our 17th on him, which I still wouldn't have been thrilled about doing for a guard.

But if we traded away an additional pick, and swapped thirds, for a guard, Albert would have been a mistake. The only way this is a good pick is if he starts OT on Day One (hopefully LT, but that's wishful thinking), and does well.

Well, just my opinion, but my money says he's starting at LT day one, and anchors the line for the next 10+ years.

But, given that I was pimping him as an OT before anyone, I imagine that opinion doesn't surprise you.

It doesn't surprise me, and **** me, if you're right about that I can totally vouch for your rightness and my wrongness.

If he does start LT on opening day, that alone justifies the pick and the trade-up for the pick.

But I wouldn't trade for a guard almost ever, especially in the first. So I hope he's at OT, otherwise we just committed a Chiefs-like blunder the likes of which I'll scorn about until you people hate me anew.

Bullshit. Albert is in no way, shape or form a "risk".

WTF are you smokin'? Seriously?

The guy AT WORST is Will Shields, jr. He'll start for 10 years at right guard and go to multiple Pro Bowls. At best he's a stud left tackle who will start for the next 10 years. He's athletic, has great feet, a passion for football and is excellent in space.

Are you telling me that you wouldn't pick Will Shields at #15 overall?

JFC.

Watching a little of the highlight films for Branden Albert, I feel good about it. He really does have a Roaf-like build, and if you saw the film of him pulling you know he can move. Very athletic, as someone said on another thread, also has a basketball background. I don't think he should have a real big problem.

As for Flowers, you know I haven't been too thrilled about his character either. With the interest the Chiefs have had though, and the fact that they took him...shows to me that those flaws aren't an issue for them. Here's to hoping their right.

A+ so far.

Hope we can get a WR, DE, G, and another corner that can all produce.

No, I don't think that's it at all.

He hated my mock draft for the Steelers, in large part, because I took Albert at 23 with the intention of moving him to tackle.

He thinks that taking a player with that kind of project in the first round is bad strategy.

I would agree with him in most cases, but I've thought for a long time, before the "experts" started talking about that Albert was a tackle.

He also absolutely killed me over taking Joe Flacco in the 2nd round. They took him in the first. Mr. Flopnuts is VINDICATED!!!!!!1!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I thought it was a lousy move by the Ravens.

But you are vindicated.

This is something I'm 100% sure I'll be reminded of in a year.
