Actually the modern day action flick has changed quite a bit from the 80's and early 90's.

Tobey McGuire and Robert Downey Jr. as action heros instead of Schwarzennegar/Stallone/Van Damme types???

Although, Downey is an inspired choice for Stark. Glad to see he has finally conquered his demons and become a leading man.

With superhero flicks it seems that one of the keys is to focus on casting the best person for the alter ego/secret identity. Once it is time to kick ass as the hero, the special effects take over most of the time. You want someone that can handle all of the acting once it is time to build the character of the Clark Kent/Peter Parker, etc.

Would the original Superman been as good if the title role was played by other hit actors of the time...John Travolta...Chuck Norris (no offense intended Mr. Norris)...Richard Gere?

haha....no way.

I still say Christopher Reeves performance as Superman/Clark is the best super hero performance ever. He was perfect.

I loved Christopher Reeves as Superman but I thought Michael Keaton as Batman was better. He was not your classically good looking man like Reeves was and yet he made Batman soooo sexy and cool beyond belief.

The trailers look terrific. RD Jr., when he isn't laying face down on Sunset Blvd., is the type of actor that can pull this kind of roll off and turn it into a franchise for multiple flix (as opposed to what Ben Affleck did or didn't do with Daredevil). I hope this is the start of something big.

Most certainly good advice, Mr. big nasty kcnut. Unfortunately, this really is a predicament since I've agreed to go with too many people at too many times at too many locations. I'm considering being sick this weekend.

As for Barry Allen - the Flash, I like him, too. As well as Batman and Hellboy. They're great, of course. And so is Thor. But you're wrong about IronMan. He is one of the greatest literary characters of all times. There's something about him that appeals to the alcoholic billionaire industrialist in all of us.

Unless your friends can bring fireworks at just the right moment then take your wife. Perhaps fireworks will follow the movie.

I just got back from seeing this. It was a freaking blast. Downey is a complete badass as Tony Stark.
