George Lucas' Indiana aliens

George Lucas' Indiana aliens
George Lucas wanted to call the new 'Indiana Jones' film 'Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men From Mars'.

The film's producer had his idea firmly rejected by actor Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg as the three men struggled to reach an agreement for around 10 years.

Spielberg said: "There was a point where I thought George and I would never agree on the story, and I was fine with that.

"George and I are best friends, and we always argue, and we always debate. That's been the nature of our relationship since we met in 1967."

'Star Wars' director Lucas had commissioned Jeb Stuart - who wrote the script for 'Die Hard' - to write his version, which saw Indy go up against Russian agents and had a climatic battle scene between the US army and alien flying saucers.

Ford added: "It takes time to get Steven, George and me on the same page. George is very stubborn with his ideas."

'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is released on May 22.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Sounds just as cheesy as the rest. But thats the way they are intended. The Indy films have always been inspired by the cheesy film serials of the 40's and 50's.

Yeah, you're probably right.

Either way, the horror of the the saucer men from mars thing is the CONTENT, not the title.

This is actually old news, believe it or not, that title was leaked back when they were trying to decide which one to use (there was a 3rd, I don't remember it). Fanboys have been bitching about the alien part of the film for a looooonng time now, saying science fiction doesn't belong in Indiana Jones.

(I apologize if the alien thing's a spoiler for anybody, but I think everybody here has seen the crystal skull which looks like a 'grey')

There are rumours that some of that alien stuff is in the flick still.

Scifi in Indy is fine, just as long as he's not shaking hands with little green men.

We'll see what they do with it. I've heard some of the rumors Deberg mentioned, and I'm 110% positive there's some kind of alien connection in the film, but that's all I know. I've avoided any and all direct, detailed spoilers on the movie. My gut says that they're archaeological artifacts, and not little green men, although I have heard (and seen in a screenshot from one of the trailers, I think there's a thread on it here somewhere) the word 'Roswell' mentioned.

If I was a quadraphagrillionaire like Lucas... I probably would have stopped making movies, and would have been working toward becoming another Hugh Hefner. Mansions and playmates.

Little green men from Mars, anyhow.

But, Mr. GoChiefs, I'm sure you'll agree that it's okay for him to shake hands with little green men from Damascus. They're still trying to work out the problems with their nuclear reactor and it's good for celebrities to visit them in the hospital and stuff.

Also, before you say anything about Raiders of the Lost Ark being a mouthful, it's almost never called that. It's usually "raiders". I don't think you can shorten this to "kingdom" though.

Lucas screwed with that one a few years back as well.

On the newer box sets he renamed it: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

LucasFilm officially changed it to "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" years ago, for continuity.

FWIW, I'm not expecting much from Crystal Skull. I know it won't be as good as Raiders and probably not as entertaining as Last Crusade.

I just hope it's better than Temple. That movie didn't appeal to me at all.

I'm going in expecting it to totally suck, but hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I don't think it can be worse than ToD.

The aliens bit kind of makes sense to me. The first three in the 30's were homages to the weekly serials of the 30's and 40's.

This one is set in the 50's. Cheesy alien flicks were very common in the 50's.

I see you more in the Howard Hughes tradition, saving your urine in mason jars, wearing tissue boxes on your feet, and watching Ice Station Zebra on a private theater screen every day.
