Royals sign 4th rounder Tim Melville

http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/new...t=.jsp&c_id=kc

Royals come to terms with Tim Melville
08/15/2008 11:49 AM ET
MLB.com

KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals today announced they have reached an agreement with fourth-round draft choice Tim Melville. Consistent with team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We are very pleased to announce the signing of Tim Melville. Tim, his family, and advisor Jason Cook remained committed to this process from start to finish," said Deric Ladnier, Royals Senior Director of Scouting. "Tim is a very talented young man and we are excited that we were able to add a player of his caliber to the Royals organization."

Melville is the 2007 Aflac National High School Player of the Year recipient. The 6'5" right-hander from Wentzville, Mo. finished his senior campaign with an 8-1 record, a 2.56 ERA, and 89 strikeouts in 52 innings. As a junior, Melville compiled a 10-1 mark with a 0.89 ERA which helped Holt High School reach the Missouri Class 4-A finals.

We have until 11pm cst to sign Hosmer and Ryan Curl...glad we got Mellville, considered at the 15th slot in the 1st round but dropped due to signability issues.

It would be a shame if they don't sign him, but to act like nothing has changed unless they do is just being silly.
I understand what you're saying, but the Royals are in desperate need of talent in their system, so if that means they have to pay an extra couple of mil, I could care less. As for a ML contract, hmm...I doubt it since he's a HS kid, but it wouldn't be the first time the team's done it, so...if the scouts think Hosmer's the real thing...

Just making the selection isn't good enough. I'm still a bit skeptical that the team took the BPA the last two seasons, particularly the Hochevar draft since Moore was supposedly not even doing a thing with the team at this point. IMO, getting both Hosmer and Melville is critical for this team.

They knew he wanted that before ever drafting him, if you take a guy knowing he wants that you should be prepared to pay it.

He's not in the lineup, and if he's up and not playing, well...it's the Royals.

Not all of this year's 1st rounders will be signed. The Yankees 1st round pick, Garritt Cole, is honoring his father's wishes and attending UCLA. He can't be drafted again until 2011 & the Yankees can not draft him again unless Cole gives the Yankees permission to do so. The Yankees will receive an extra 1st rd pick next year.

If the Royals don't sign him they should be absolutely railed, they knew exactly what he wanted before drafting him, if you know that and aren't prepared to pay it don't pick him.

Though we're disappointed with Eric's decision not to sign, we're fortunate that we signed someone whom we believe to be a first-round talent in the fourth. /Glass/

And that is why the Royals are the Royals.

If the kid doesn't sign, I better read a quotation attributed to him to the tune of, "I would never play for that horseshit organization, no matter the amount of money."

If it ends up being we offered 5 and he wanted 7 or the team wouldn't provide a ML contract, I would suggest the fans actively demand new ownership. Sorry, it would be an indication that this is the same old Royals. The same organization that has never had a payroll over 65 mil. among countless other transgressions against fans. But I'm sure someone knee deep in the Moore Kool-Aid will consider this crazy. But Guillen and Meche? Moosetacos? Yes, and...? Things have changed! Changed I tell you!!! Really?

"I'm deadly serious about winning." /Glass, from his sofa in Arkansas, checking updates via the Internet/

I just don't personally understand how they can use money as the reasoning when everyone knew exactly what he wanted before he being drafted, if you weren't willing to pay the 7 mill draft someone else.

It's not like this was surprising everyone knew exactly what he wanted.

The kid is supposed to have a ton of power from the left side. What would this cost in FA? A ****ing lot more than 7. If you won't spend the serious cheese on the FA market and you won't sign the best, ****...might as well quit.

Everyone did not know what he wanted. There were rumors that were floated around, but that happens for tons of players every single year. Teams draft them with the anticipation that they will meet in the middle, not that the player will stick with their price tag and not budge.

I'm pretty sure everyone knew he wanted alot of money....either way this is what sets the Royals apart from other teams, Even Tampa Bay has paid all their draft picks.
