Home and Auto New A/C unit with Crane Pics - Page 3

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately, our A/C unit went out this weekend. It was 15 years old and probably due. Anyway, since our home is 45 foot tall, a crane was needed to removed the old unit and replace it with a new unit.

Since I thought it was pretty cool to see, I've attached a few pics for those interested.

When I was working in Property Management in Las Vegas, I noticed alot of Residential A/C and Apts units on the roofs an don't understand why? Any explainations?

I have none, though personally, I think it sucks.

Our ducts are exposed as well and finally (after five years of living here), I hired a competent company who painted the ducts with reflective paint and re-sealed them (they have to be re-sealed every two years due to constant exposure. Terrible design). I didn't even know they made reflective paint. The result? Lower A/C costs (because the ducts are on fire all day).

vent Ducts in ceiling. Cold air falls..... It's still a stupid design. Ground units, but the ground isn't stable there so....what are you gonna do....

There's one million pounds of concrete per home behind me. The steel and concrete cassons went 40 foot deep into the granite hillside. I've got pics of the construction along the way and it's pretty amazing.

Safe to say, those homes aren't going anywhere.

Speaking for us white trash San Fernando Valley residents. We definitely need AC.

It depends where you live.

If you live near the coasts, you generally don't need A/C. But I'm 7 miles inland in a little canyon, so we don't get much ocean breeze. We usually only run the A/C a few months out of the year and with a four story home, it's pretty essential during heat waves.
