Tamba Hali - Disappointment?

The Chiefs 2006 first round pick, selection #20 overall, is now in his 3rd season as a starter.

Has he failed, met, or exceeded your expectation of him so far in his career?

It's been very disappointing. His rookie year showed promise. Then, I thought he might just be in a sophomore slump - which happens - and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, there were injuries to consider.

I'm not so sure, now. He needs to get it together or he will, as some have said, turn out to be a marginal, backup quality player. That doesn't speak well of Herm's ability to select talent. If Pollard and Page don't start performing like true starters in this league, Herm's drafts are going to start looking pretty average all of a sudden. That class looked like this ...

Tamba Hali (Underachieving.)
Bernard Pollard (Average safety, excellent punt blocker person.)
Brodie Croyle (Who the heck knows? But, not looking good due to injuries and handcuffs.)
Marcus Maxey (Released)
Tre' Stallings (Has he played a snap?)
Jeff Webb (two starts - 30 total catches, or so)
Jarrad Page (Work in progress. A question mark.)

I'm not so sure it's the picks themselves, Mr. Deberg_1990. It may be. But, it may also have something to do with the Chiefs' historical difficulty in developing talent once we acquire it. I continue to believe that we have a real problem in that area.

I wont disagree.

As has been stated many times, this franchise needs an enema.

We could have traded our entire draft for Cromartie and we'd be better off today, that's rather sad.

Pollard and Page have both played well this year.

As for Hali, none of the ends have done much in terms of pass rush, but NE historically doesn't give up sacks and the Raiders weren't even trying to throw the ball. It's a shame he didn't intercept that screen to start the game, though. That could have been huge...

Either way, for the safeties or the ends, it's a 16-game season; we'll see what happens.

The injury is troubling.

This is what happens when you draft a physically maxed out player with no upside.

What do you mean we can't develop? We develop some of the best unmemorable and never-was players this league has ever seen.

I'd say most drafted rookies are about peaked if not "maxed" physically in their first 1st-5th seasons. Where they are not "maxed" is in terms of their skill level which as we know can only come from experience,

To me, I think Hali is a poser who pretty much rationalized failure in a interview a couple of weeks ago, in which he acknowledged his inability to get to the passer and remind us that he can't replace Allen ("as if we didn't already know that" -palin} Either way he doesn't sound nasty enough to me.

There is a huge difference in being physically maxed out with no upside, and having a sky is the limit upside with room to grow and improve...

The Chiefs drafted Hali who was a polished player who had tapped all of his potential already he wasn't getting any better.

It wasn't like drafting a physical freak manchild who had every athletic skill you could ask for and then teaching him technique, you can teach technique and make a athletic freak better, you can't teach a guy who knows technique to have more natural talent.

I think a team could win a Super Bowl with him at LDE and half way decent talent at DT. He doesnt' fit at RDE, so it's not his fault the team is playing him out of position.
