Gunther will fix the defense now...

Just be patient.

http://chiefsblog.kansascity.com/?q=node/346

Gunther moving downstairs?

Gunther Cunningham would like to call the defensive signals from the sidelines for the season's final 11 games. Cunningham, the defensive coordinator, has been working in the press box on game day.

Cunningham said it would help the Chiefs make adjustments if he was stationed on the sideline.

"We're trying to think of anything we can to put the players in the best position to make plays," he said.

His plan needs the approval of head coach Herm Edwards but Cunningham could be on the sideline for the Oct. 19 game against Tennessee at Arrowhead Stadium.

Good.

I wanted to see this happen since after the raiders loss.

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=191654

Not that i think that it will make a difference. But it does show he is trying to do the right thing with where we are at. Afterall, he is the one who wanted it this way.

Joe Vitt asked out of his job as LB coach when Gun was brought back in '04. Reason? He had coached LB's under Gun before and didn't want to do it again.

Next was Fred Pagac DV's choice to replace Vitt. He was shipped out when Herm came in and allowed Gun to basically choose the current D staff.

Watched a interview with Gun after Herm was hired and the full staff was completed and Gun's reasons for the hires. (they did this with Solari as well about the same time on kcchiefs.com)

He wanted Krumrie because he was alot like him personality wise. Herm liked him because he coached against him when he was at Buffalo twice a year and herm in NYJ.

Gibbs(who i think is doing a better job than some do) was a gun hire as well. Gun has been friends with Alex Gibbs a long time and new David when he was much younger as a kid. Followed his career etc.

Don Blackmon came from the same Bills staff as Krumrie to coach LB's. All Gun had to say was they brought him in and Herm liked him. Didn't praise or i guess talk about him nearly as much as Krumrie and Gibbs.

In his 2 years hear, i remember a couple short snippets from Blackmon from PFW on DJ. in 06' about how he was suprised watching film from DJ's rookie year and how he improved his weakness off running around blocks (the big knock that caused him to slide in the draft and to a degree Blackmon agreed with that ) and another comment before last season on how he needed to step up even more to reach his potential which Blackmon thought could be pro bowl level. So he basically kept calling him out.

Next we know Gun is taking on LB coaching duties. No mention of Firing Blackmon. Just Gun.

At the time Herm acted like it was no big deal. You could almost tell he could forsee some potential problems. Asked about who on the sidelines would coach the LB's or go over the previous drives/series he said either Gibbs, Krumrie or he himself(herm) would. No big deal just point out if they were out of position or not.

IMO Gun could take that risk with a veteran team but pretty risky to do with all the youngsters on D. Which IMO shows his poor judgement. Too which hopefully he will be held accountable for like everyone else should be.

Gun made the same type of mistake he did as HC. Trying to be involved in everything or do too much. He outworks/outthinks himself. I don't doubt he could coach LB's again. But he is at that point in his career where he probably shouldn't be a DC again assuming he would be offered the chance.

He leads too much instead of trusting the people hired to do their jobs IMO.

I think Herm agreed because he thought it could finally turn DJ around to his potential. Also proves Carl is still involved IMO. Just like bringing back D. Edwards. Herm said it was to teach DJ how to be a pro.

I can't even vent anymore. Just a mess.

.
I was at camp two years ago and they were doing walkthroughs. I was watching the defense and Gunther was talking to the linebackers. One of them said something and then suddenly Gun yelled "I DON'T CARE WHAT COACH BLACKMON SAYS, WHEN THEY RUN SO AND SO I WANT SO AND SO DOWN IN THIS GAP BLA BLA BLA."

SAVE US CLARK

It's been a leadership problem from the leader on down. Carl's ego of being a former coach (he brings this up too much while trying to take credit) under DV at UCLA gets the better of him too much with sticking his nose in the football desicions. If the dumb peckerhead would realize he is a better business mind than football mind...........

I can't even stand listening to a Gunther interview anymore these last couple of years. He just seems like he is losing it or burnt out. Makes me wonder how the communication issues are between the rest of the staff and/or players with him. I can only take so much of even players like DJ saying "oh he's tough but you have to get to know him" etc.

Herm preaches doing your own job, if he wouldn't keep someone like Dick Curl around when he actually made a decent choice in OC as Gailey, just so he could keep the QB a mistake free QB and micro manage that.

Makes me sick when have had the improved drafts and really the last one was so excited and we have these issues with coaching. Herm also preaches that teaching is the biggest part of coaching. I can't see how screeming and yelling is going to get the best out of all these youngsters adjusting to the NFL.

Another thread I'm too drunk to read, but I have to ask this, even though I like Gunther, why the hell could he not land a DC job with any other team?

If Carl, Herm, and Gun aren't gone at the end of the season, I'm done with this franchise.

During the Vermeil years, we had one functioning unit in the whole organization -- and I am not just talking offense and defense. The offensive coaching staff were the only employees at Arrowhead who were worth a shit at the whole ****ing place. So what do we do? Purge them, and now there is just not a single person in that building worth a damn. Just burn the ****ing place to the ground, Clark. No one survives. There is just no reason to follow this team until Clark does so.

A- Gunther will still be able to find a job in the NFL after his time with the Chiefs is done.
I highly doubt it.

According to a formerDB, a Steeler coach friend of his says that ****her isn't thought of very highly in NFL coaching circles these days.

Gun fits in perfectly with Carl and Herm. All three are arrogant, condescending pricks -- which would be fine if they weren't utterly incompetent.

The sad truth is that Dierdorf is right.

****her is a KC icon.

Just look at how long it's taken for people here to finally realize that ****her isn't bestest DC ever.
