We've been worse than we should've been.

But that said, most football fans don't have the patience for a total gutting and rebuilding of the roster like we did... especially when you haven't won anything in forever, and have at least been "competitive" for about 20 years. I'm sure some of the people who always said for years that we need to have two or three top 5 picks didn't realize how bad the football would have to be to reach that point.

Herm took over a team and did help develop some young players.. Abraham, Ellis, Pennington, lots of other guys... and not that he did a Belichick like job, but they had a lot of inexperience and they had 3 playoff births. You could do better, but that's not utter failure either. And obviously Carl turned this franchise in a different direction many ages ago. I think they've both shown the ability to build something playoff worthy, but neither has shown they can finish the job.

Agree, but the fact that once he rides the coattails of the previous regime, he has yet proven he can build a team worthy of the NFL with his own players....

Christ his last 4 years would get most coaches banned from the NFL period.. 4-12, 9-7 (God's biggest miracle in the history of time, PLAYOFFS), 4-12 and who knows what this year is.. 3-13?

How can anyone survive that kind of stretch while showing zero adjustments or taking zero responsibility?

How impervious to reality do those people have to be? It's not like we haven't had numerous examples of the kinds of bad football teams who go through that experience over the years. The Rams of the 90's. The Raiders of the past several years. Detroit under Matt Millen. Cleveland. Cincinnati. Arizona. The list goes on.

I realized it, that is one reason why I was against this from the beginning. After following this team for almost 4 decades, I had put it in a comfort zone. At least I got to enjoy more Sundays than not.

I would have probably been more in favor of it, if the team had true leader at the helm. Herm showed lack of leadership from almost day one, when he started putting things down, that some of us fans held dear. He showed from the outset, everything is about Herm's ego.

If the HC was someone that young players will follow, not despise, I would be more sold on the rebuild. The entire coaching staff, except for Gailey, is so inept, they are comedic.

Too late now, Herm has gutted the team and it's respect. He has trashed the proud history, and even eliminated the Arrowhead mistique.

On the bright side, we have had a lot of nice Sundays so far this fall, so outdoor activities are still an option.

The solution is to get a true leader at the helm, and I think a lot of these young guys could make an excellent football team.

All so true. We need a coach that can lead...lead the team and be a leader for the city's fans. The mystiqe and attitude needs to return. You can't come to our house without having your teeth kicked in. We should be making teams cry as they leave KC. I'm so tired of having a coach that doesn't care about these things...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I agree, that probably pisses me off more than anything. He basically dismisses all the tradition and rivalries this team has built over the years. Calling the best offense the team ever had, a "Circus Offense," was only the beginning.
Not caring any more about beating Oakland, than Houston, is another unforgivable slight. Beating Oakland is job #1!!!

Another problem I have with the Chiefs "Rebuilding" mentality is I'm so tired of us drafting players, working with them, and then either giving up on them in a few seasons and cutting them, then hearing them making waves for another team, or seeing them turn into studs and want out. And this isn't just under Herm.

It almost feels like we are a farm club for the rest of the NFL

As I mentioned on another thread, statistically we are one of the worst teams in the NFL in the last 10 years, and the coaches of those other horrid teams never turned it around. To be as bad as we are indicates systematic incompetence throughout the organization.

Regarding rebuilding in general -- there is no rebuild, there is draft well or not draft well.
