Way to sit around Clark

According to ESPN, Cowher has turned down Clevelands offer to come to the Browns. But Owner Lerner has been granted permission to talk with Pioli from the New England Patriots.Way to sit around Clark.

Could be worse. The Lions acted fast. They named their GM today. They promoted from within the organization.

There is no reason for Clark to fire Herm. Does a top GM candidate want to come to a team were staff positions are being made by the owner without the GM's input? NO!!!

Maybe Chan could be a HC or OC candidate in the new GM's eyes, but if Clark fires Herm and the other coaches Chan (or any other coach) maybe off the market just because the owner did his own thing.

Remember the last time the Chiefs made a rush to find a new head coach? We gave up a draft pick to sign Herm when he was going to be fired anyway. Firing Herm without the new GM in place has no upside and a lot of downside.

Herm didn't come about in a mad rush to find a coach. They had Herm on the radar a year before.

I'm really not sure which way we're leaning... but so far Clark really hasn't played his hand publicly at all. Nobody had any idea that they'd been having discussions about Carl resigning until it blindsided everyone a couple weeks ago. It was just assumed Carl was safe. I think we might have to sit and wait on this one... I doubt Clark is gonna publicize who he's talking to.

Relax guys.

Clark Hunt looks like the better man right now. The Browns have just showed that they are too impatient with their General Manager to give him more than a few years, the Jets have shown that they are willing to pin all their blame on their head coach when things go sour.

Hunt's deliberation shows that he's being careful and I think that sends a strong message that he'll be loyal to the pick he chooses.

I see no reason to rush this decision. I think the GM decision is a hell of a lot more important than the coaching decision, especially if you believe (as I do) that the GM will determine who our head coach is.

Not to mention that Lerner seems like more of a "get things out to the press" guy vs Clark who seems like a more "keep my cards close to the vest" guy.

Hey, at least we didn't do what the Lions did and promote Kucharik and Thum the day after we finish 2-14...

Wow! That is amazing isn't it. I never want to hear the Ford family cry about wanting to be successful. You don't look within an existing losing organization to get better, but then again these are the same people who are running a Auto company into the ground.

I will say this the Browns and Lions appear to be moving quickly while the Chiefs......ummmm..... I don't know yet what they are doing or Clark is keeping it very very quiet.

The Browns have lined up Pioli and now Redskins Secondary Coach Jerry Gray to interview and already talked to Cowher

The Lions have just received permission to talk to Steve Spagnuolo

Not quite, but nice try.

In fact, with the Chiefs splitting the job into two parts, they may not be granted permission at all because it is not a clear cut promotion.

The Pats HAD to give him permision to interview with the Browns. They may not have to with the Chiefs.

Agreed. He's keeping it close to the vest. I think by doing that, he doesn't lose face, if we lose out on somebody and he also doesn't let the new GM in on the fact, that he might be runner-up. A win-win in my book.

Did ESPN say Clark Hunt had NOT done these things?

Because if they didn't say that, thread = kinda stupid.

Well, I edited my post, but basically, the Pats MUST let him interview for ANY job that is a clear cut promotion.

Now, teams could initially say no. Then the team requesting the interview has to go to arbitration in front of the comissioner. And, the Pats no they would lose in the case of Cleveland.

Now, with the Chiefs, it is a little more sticky. It is NOT a clear cut promotion because the Chiefs are not giving Pioli power over everything. They have split CP's job into two parts, so it isn't a clear cut promotion.

Now, Clark is supposedly close to Kraft's son, so they MAY let Pioli go as a professional courtesy, but doubtful.

IF the Pats say no, the Chiefs could take it to arbitration and 'may' win. But, if not, they have wasted time, and even if they win, Pioli could say 'no thanks'... again, wasting time.

Now, to bottom line this thing. Teams don't just say no at all times, because the commissioner can take away draft picks for saying no when it is a clear cut promotion.

Hopefully, that clears it all up.
