810 vs 610 on Thigy

So this afternoon I am driving around and I hear KK going off abou tThigy not being the man and such. Ok, commercial comes so I flip to 610. On 610 they are arguing that Thigy deserves a shot and pointing out the stats pre and post Thigy and such.

You almost wonder if they plan this shit? Anyhow, if KK is so staunch in his opposition of Thigy then I say we definitely need to give Thigy a shot.

So this seems it will be the ongoing argument over the next several weeks. Some people are going to be very pissed off come draft time when we make our first selection.

I have news, we can't run the ball period. LJ cannot get 1 yard to save his life, regardless of under center or spread.

Now all the sudden Cassel is a REAL QB?

did you guys not notice how bad thigpen was when he went in with the real offense under center, he looked like a pee wee kid running for his life, he cannot succeed in a real offense.

Is he the reason LJ can't get 1 yard when we run from under center?

And what about the TD he threw from "under center"?

I liked Trent Green, and respected what he did as the Chiefs starting QB, but if it ever came down to needing a QB making plays to win a game in the playoffs, I had no faith that he would be that guy, unless he was facing a defense nearly as bad as ours.

I posted this link in another thread, and it really illustrates how important a QB is to achieving long term success, and competing annually for championships.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...hff/index.html

Now I will not dismiss Thigpen's potential, but it would be irresponsible to pass up a potential QBoTF simply because Thigpen is better than bad.

And it's myopic thinking that drafting a QB in the first round limits your ability to fix other areas of the team.

The QB position is the most imporatnt position on the field.

You can not pass one up because you have other areas of need.

It's not about RIGHT NOW. We're going to suck in 2009. We can either start slowly putting together the pieces to be a real winner (by filling a premium position with premium draft position), or we can grasp for the first thing that will maybe let us go 8-8.

That 8-8 thing sure seems to be a serious drug for some.

You realize Colt brennan is Tyler thigpen, except from a bigger school and a higher draft round, right? Both spread QBs who run around and make plays, yet aren't the best in traditional offenses.

And brady Quinn? The same brady quinn who played two games and went on IR? The Chiefs have Brokie, and he costs millions less.

Oh, and Cassel played out of the spread for most of the year in new england, and for teh first half of his tenure as starter, he couldn't even get it in Moss' area code. Will he be bringing randy with him to KC to bail him out? What about Welker, is he coming too?

Not that your post is completely without merit; if McNabb came available, the chiefs would be foolish not to try and grab him.

KK never impressed me as much of a player evaluator. Still remember the Joe Horn situation...

I like Thigpen. If he works on his game I think we can win a lot of games with him. But for those who want to draft a QB worthy of a high pick I've got no problem with that either. Would love to see a situation like the Chargers had few years back with Brees finally coming into his own with a line/receivers/defense while Rivers waited in the wings.

The Giants are a great model to follow if you ask me.

When they were at their worst they started with QB's.
A badass D-coordinator and a good head coach will do that for you.

I don't think the Giants front office necessarily did it right. Yeah, they won a SB and I guess that's what counts, but would you really make that trade again? Those are arguably the 3 best players at their position in the game right now (though it's a stretch for Rivers, he did lead the league in passer rating with a hobbled running game this season).

I agree with taking a high QB when the opportunity is afforded, but I don't think the Giants went about getting theirs correctly.
