Chiefs Unsubstantiated Rumor: It will be Bill Cowher as Head Coach in 2009 - Page 8

OK gang, as you all know, A friend of mine from high school is good friends with a former player of the Chiefs and Steelers... just talked with him on Facebook and he said that 100% that Cowher will be the coach next year. The assistants have been told to find other employment and they are at the senior bowl with Pioli and he is seeing which assistants/scouts that may be worth keeping.

Cowher loves the new facilities... working with Scott Pioli... the new attitude... & he wants to be able to come to KC and be the hero.

Apparently, Cowher drafted this former player and they remain good friends. And Cowher told him these things... allegedly.

My friend isn't a big bullshitter... but this would seem to be too good to be true.

cowher and pioli have the makings of a very good organization that players would LOVE to play for...

so, I'd say 80% that this happens... flame away if you like... but, I thought I'd share.

Lets not pretend that Cowher is the only coach to win with this philosophy. Parcells Giants were pretty hardnosed. The 85 Bears. Redskins championships. Tampa, Baltimore. Its not an unheard of path. I'd prefer a scoring offense too, but it has been done.

Why is this? They don't have anything to gain from leaking the info. No leverage in other negotiations or anything.

every rumor and inquiry into cowher has been leaked almost immediately, it seems to me...

Right now 9-7 seems pretty tempting. The Cardinals might win the SB and they're only 9-7....

No.. Why is everyone wanting to say Dorsey can't be a NT... well duh! No one projects him there... he is a 3-technique in a 3-4...

A number of sites had this as his perfect place in the pros.... it lets him work more in space...

I don't know if this is correct... but a number of people thought so at the time. It is worth a shot IF we can go out and draft or find a NT... we definitely don't have one on the roster unless Tank want to bulk up.

he brings toughness, a winning attitude, is a leader, and his teams are usually fundamentally sound and tough.

The defense would definately improve. We will run a 3-4. and be an effective blitz attacking team which is what Id prefer of a "soft" cover 2 scheme.

bill cowher may be a little bit conservative, but i will say he is smart and has always had both solid run defenses teams and solid rushing offenses.

Gailey would definately stay if Cowher is hired. But just think of the flexibilty on offense? This team showed they are capable of passing the ball this year in the spread pistol formation, add to the fact Chan Gailey has a reputation of co-ordinating good rushing offenses.

This would be great.

I dunno. Cowher makes more sense to me than any other option/rumor. Why else would Pioli sit back and watch EVERYONE slip away? There has to be some reason for his calm cool calculated approach.
