Broncos owner Pat Bowlen would be obligated to pay the balance of Shanahan's three-year contract at approximately $6.5 million per year.

That was from the ESPN article - and is exactly the scenario I'm disputing (if you go back many pages). There is no reason Shanahan would go along with that. He doesn't owe the Hunts any salary relief, and he has no reason to screw Bowlen.

Do I have to post everything twice?

But ultimately, most of his sentiments were saved for Bowlen. As he mentioned the owner's name, Shanahan had to pause more than once to collect himself.

"It's tough because he's a great friend," he said. "He'll always be my great friend. The best owner in sports. I appreciate every opportunity he gave me to be successful. You have to make tough decisions in any organization, and Pat made a tough decision. . . . I've got no problem with it."

What the **** does friendship have to do with business? Not a damn thing. I have no doubts Shanahan RESPECTS Bowlen, but you're ****ing crazy if you think Shanahan isn't going to look out for himself before he looks out for Bowlen. He doesn't owe Bowlen jack doo diddly squat. He was FIRED. Do you not comprehend that? FIRED by his BFF.

What does businessman Mike Shanahan owe the Hunts? Why would he take less from them than anyone else? What makes you think the Chiefs can get Shanahan - or anyone - at subprime?

Remember - Shanahan gets the $7 million if he does NOTHING. The scenario ESPN offered doesn't make him one extra cent.

You got it all wrong. He won't be screwing Bowlen he will be helping him.

If Shanahan doesn't coach this year Bowlen owes him $7 million dollars. If Shanahan coaches and gets a salary of $3.5 million Bowlen only owes him the other half which is $3.5.

That's not true. Bowlen is perfectly content to pay him the $7 million. Paying him to coach a competitor is an entirely different matter. I'm sure you can see that if you think about it a moment.

he would actually only be paying him for the amount of his balance of his contract to coach the broncos, the chiefs would be paying for his coaching duties

I am sure he wouldn't be happy about it but he should have thought about that before he fired him.

Also from what I understand Bowlen owes alot of money to the coaches that he let go this past month so I am sure he would like for some of them to get jobs so he doesn't have to pay the full amount.

In the end Bowlen is a business man and I am sure he would rather pay $3.5 million instead of $7 million.
