End of story: Shanahan is not taking Chief's job

Shanahan is not taking Chief's job

KANSAS CITY - Mike Shanahan may not have a new job after all. After reports surfaced the former Denver Broncos head coach was close to taking the top job with the Kansas City Chiefs, those reporting that have backtracked.

ESPN now reports only that the Chiefs are targeting Shanahan for their head coaching job after the team fired Herm Edwards on Friday. Initially, ESPN reported that a deal was near between the Chiefs and Shanahan.

Edwards was fired after going 15-34 in three seasons. He still had one year left in his original four-year, $12 million contract.

The NFL Network's Adam Schefter, who recently finished writing a book with Shanahan, maintains Shanahan will not be taking the job with the Chiefs and is not considering it.

"They are not near a deal. They are not near a deal right now, they were not near a deal yesterday, they will not be near a deal tomorrow. Mike Shanahan will not be the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs," Schefter told 9NEWS. "All the people in Denver can stop worrying or stop talking about it, it's not happening. I know there have been national reports to the other effect. I'm here to tell you just the opposite, it's not going to happen."

Schefter says he has spoken with Shanahan directly about it.

"I speak to Mike regularly, there has been nothing in his tone or in his message that has given me any indication that he will be the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. I know for a fact they've not had contact to this point. The Chiefs may in fact reach out to him in the coming days and even then I firmly believe it will not change anything," Schefter said.

The Broncos have hired new head coach and former New England Patriots offense coordinator Josh McDaniels to replace Shanahan.

When he was fired, Shanahan still had three years left on his contract, worth about $20 million.

No.

TJ, how bad does it suck that your team only won a SB because of an ex-Raider cheater. I guess you guys can thank the Fade for your success.....oh, and cheating.

Shanahan was a Broncos coach before he went to the Raiders. Then he came back. Then he went to the 49ers, won a Superbowl with Steve Young, and then came back and won two Superbowls with us.

He coached like 4 games with the Raiders before Al fired him.

And say what you want about cheating. Doesn't matter to me what you think. I've stood a foot away from our two Superbowl trophies, and could see my reflection clearly in them.

Good.

I definitely do not want him in KC.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

You know what the difference is between the Donks trophies and ours? We won ours fair and square without any hint of cheating. Yours will always have the tarnish of illegitimacy.

I thought you were going to say that ours were won in the days of color photography.

But your meltdown over not actually getting Shanahan is noted.

No meltdown here. I could honestly give a shit less if he comes here or he doesn't. I just couldn't resist the opportunity to poke you in the eye a couple of times about your team.

As is your meltdown over the mere possibility that Shanahan may end up in KC.

You honestly think that those "pokes" are even remotely effective, and that I'm concerned that a couple of Chiefs fans are jealous of our Superbowl wins and call them illegitimate? *shrug*

If it makes you feel good, then go for it. But all I do is laugh. Nothing that you can say is going to take either of those seasons, and certainly not either of those days away from me.

It's cool that both of us have the most iconic coach of the Denver Broncos in our avatars.

For someone who has ZERO INTEREST in whether Shanny is hired by the Chiefs, you sure have posted alot regarding the matter, that, by default makes you FOS.
