NFL Draft Someone explain to me what makes Aaron Curry worth the 3rd pick? - Page 34

Since I'm seeing people starting to lean that way I really want to know...he's not a rusher 9 1/2 sacks in 4 years...he has nearly as many INT's as he does sacks over the course of his college career...

Does this mean he's a bad player no it doesn't, but the type of LB he is does not make him worth a top 5 pick. Fathom this Ernie Sims was taken 10 as a traditional 4-3 OLB he's a very nice player...is he a difference maker up in Detroit, he's not. And it can be easily argued that he's more naturally gifted than Curry is..the OLB position in a 4-3 is not a game changing core position.

Not to mention you could sign the #1 LB on the market of FA for half of what you'd have to pay Curry to do the same thing.

Freeman no because he is from K-State

Davis is a possibility. The guy has been a starter since his freshman year so that is a plus but I really don't enough about him to say yes or no.

Also just playing devil's advocate here you could make the case much like Bradford, Sanchez has faced inferior defenses. I went and looked up Pac-10 defensive rankings and besides USC only one other team finished in the Top 30 and that is California at 27.

If Vontae Davis is available as the #3 pick in the second round, depending on who is on the board also, I would definitely be happy with the pick. I'm decently happy with our current secondary, but another terrific prospect at CB is not going to hurt my feelings in the least. I honestly don't see any way that he is going to be available in the second round though.

As for Freeman, I'm not at all interested. He seems too much like Thigpen in that he has a strong arm, but lacks accuracy and the touch needed to play in anything other than a spread offense.

And the Texas site lists the same info. about McCoy, so it must be accurate.

I'd say they're built quite similarly, except that Croyle is more solid.

Sorry I prefer defensive players... Only Davis I've been watching is Vontae.

By the way, maybe you can enlighten me on this. I mean this seriously, and not with any sarcasm.

The whole idea of changing someones position at the pro level doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. A quarter back and a TE are so different that I can't see taking any risk whatsoever on converting a player from QB to TE.

So he's built like a TE, do we know if he can block, run pass routes, or catch for that matter?

About all we know is he can improvise when under pressure, has decent accuracy, good leadership, and the ability to run an offense.

Urban Meyer's offense in no way, shape or form prepares a college QB for the Pro Style offense of the NFL.

Alex Smith? Chris Leak? Any of his backup QB's?

Not one has found success. Of any kind.

Tebow has weird mechanics, an awful throwing motion and no experience behind center. That's doesn't say "NFL QB".

It says "College QB".

We also know that he can't throw worth a damn, relatively speaking.

He's a great college player, no question, but what he does well (skill wise) will not translate well to the NFL. That's why I'm not really kidding with the TE comments. He's a great athlete, so this type of change might be a reality.

Can't we say the same for Pete Carrol? Other than Carson Palmer who has been slightly injury plagued, who has performed well from USC? Cassel might be good, but after years of understudy under the Patriots it's hard to say what led to his success.

No, we can't say the same.

JD Booty was a 5th round choice of the Vikings. Leinart was drafted to run the West Coast offense, not the vertical offense employed by Whisenhunt. Cassel may have never stepped on the field during his 4 years at USC but he did practice in a Pro Style offense during that time and spent years on the Patriots roster.

These "spread monkeys" as Mecca refer to them can't find success in the NFL because they were never taught to read defenses under center and don't have the true earmarks of a franchise QB (footwork, accuracy, arm strength and the ability to play behind center).

All of USC's recent QB's may not be Pro Bowlers but they do know how to run an NFL offense.

The same cannot be said of Urban Meyer's quarterbacks.

Typically QBs like that become Safeties. (Cromwell, Lynch).

Vontae Davis is a top 20 pick so just give up on that now..

And please stop pining for spread monkeys that's begging for failure.
