Instead of factoring this into your analysis, you somehow state that SD clearly didn't want Manning. You really think this? Are you kidding? If Manning hadn't demanded NOT to play for the Chargers, you still think he'd be in NY? That's where your entire argument becomes invalid. This had nothing to do with value being considered too high, and everything to do with the Chargers making the best out of a "bad" situation. They wanted the top QB. He said, "**** off." So they still took him, orchestrated a trade with NY for whom they considered, I'd imagine, the second best QB, and got something in return. If Manning would have never mouthed off and NY really, really wanted him, SD could have taken the Giants to the cleaners. |

![]() Yes I agree there are 5 o'clock hitters(batting practice) and their are gametime hitters(George Brett) Are you even old enough to know who Brett was and still is? ![]() But mark my words we will pick Curry or trade down at this point. And we will draft a QB but it will be in the later rds and I suspect it will be someone who Pioli feels fits the Tom Brady bill that is flying under the radar. |

I will be thrilled let me tell ya...people can say what they want about any GM but if he really in his mind believes he can pull any QB out of the 6th round and make him good that is the height of arrogance. |

Why is it ignorant to question why a potential #3 pick that you're going to pay $70M had a poor workout? It shouldn't make or break the guy, but it's most definitely worth discussing. Why even bother doing the combine if you had your mind made up before evaluating these kids?

He's had the luxury of drafting QB's late, b/c it's a great risk/reward, knowing more often than not he's burning the pick. But, what the ****, that's smart drafting in rounds 5-7. |

And that is kind of the point of what I said, he doesn't even believe it yet people think he does, do you realize how arrogant the man would have to be to actually believe it?

The Chargers very aggressively shopped this offer to the Giants. The Giants did not want to give up the ridiculously high draft compensation to keep the #2 and #3 NFL teams from taking bar-none the best player in the draft. And besides, the major point is, the Chargers got significantly less trade compensation than the trade chart would indicate and most people would claim that they won in a very big way from the trade. So if the trade chart is so right, then there is no way the Chargers should have made out well from that trade. |
