Born and raised in Los Angeles, I've watched the men iron creases into their jeans since long before I could walk. And they did it without looking like absolute idiots. And they did it while totally existing in MY culture.

A part of American culture? Certainly, but let's not pretend that there aren't other cultures within American culture that are every bit as significant. Sub-cultures that you may not identify with.

That particular phenomenon is easily 15 years old by now.
This is a much different time.

I know people who happen to think ironing creases into their jeans (largely West Coast culture) was corny. Corny back then even.

His admitted idol and model is Jay Z.
Can you imagine Jay Z in that outfit?

Hip Hop is do what you will with what you got. Cool for him that he's chosen to make people laugh. Thats really is a good thing.

The questions I asked were in earnest, so I don't know why you're saying, "Get over yourselves."

Larry's expression, to me, rings hollow. When I look at him or hear him talk about how difficult he has it and has had it, I see a person who desperately wants to be something he's not.

He's the consummate wannabe from high school.

Sigh. You just like to argue. I don't really care if you liked the creasing, it was what was popular. Black Urban American Men made it so.

So. What subculture am I missing? I grew up with Hip Hop and Breaking. I went through a hockey player spell so there was much Heavy Metal and Rock. My parents were Parrot Heads, so I can hang with the hippies. Played with strippers who spend their days being as Pop as possible.

Whatever subculture Larry is representing that I'm unaware of, they have horrible...And I mean just horrible... taste in clothes.

In others that particular style was poked fun at.

This is what I find ironic. And much of what Larry does seems to be an extension of this.

I freely admit that I might be wrong.

I don't know that he's ever truly done that.
I've heard Johnson speak on struggles along race lines, but never along class lines.

I can't say that I've ever heard him misrepresent his childhood and how he was brought up.
