FA: What's Left?

(FB) Leonard Weaver, 26
(DE) Mike Wright, 27
(DT) Shaun Cody, 26
(LB) Marques Harris, 27
(CB) Leigh Bodden, 27
(KR/PR) Justin Miller, 25

I'd take four of them without blinking.
Wright, Weaver, Harris, and Miller. Justin Miller as a pure returnman could be just what this Special Teams needs. He's dangerous and can provide a much needed spark there.

I'd love to have Weaver... Especially if LJ's going to stay (I think he will).
A good young FB like that can help resurrect him. And Matt Cassel's going to need a solid running game to succeed.

I'm not much of a fan of Shaun Cody, but he could figure in if we do switch over to the 3-4.

Bodden's some kind of CB. We've got two young guys I'm extremely satisfied with, but if they just wanted to get better there...Bodden could help.

The Chiefs still have too many holes to try addressing them all in Free Agency. We're still going to need depth at several positions.

Ludicrous.

Mack, Unger, Caldwell, Wood, Urbick, Johnson and Luigs are just a few of the guys that will be available in rounds 2-4 that immediately upgrade the Chiefs offensive line for the next decade.

Look for the Chiefs to trade down at least once in the first round (if not twice), acquire more picks and build the line through the draft.
That's what I keep telling myself, but...

Trading down is going to be really tough, especially this year with lack of elite talent at the top...

It doesn't matter. The Chiefs don't have to stick to the "value chart". They can just take what they can get and accumulate picks.

Honestly, I see them trading down twice, landing in the 15-23 spot for their first pick and hopefully picking up at least one second and two thirds this year. That will go a long, long way towards building a solid if not spectacular offensive line for the next decade.

Not that it matters, because they'll get it worked out, but...

STL sports radio is reporting that the league has dis-allowed the contract between the Rams and Jason Brown. Some issue with the voidable last year of the deal.

I heard that too, something like deals can't get 30% increase year over year or something.

That's insane - he's good, but DAMN!

I wouldn't sacrifice the value of my pick just to move down.
It'd have to be an insignificant number of points for me to consider it.

I would agree that probably the best option for KC is to trade down from the 3rd slot, but that is not going to be that easy to do. If anybody can do it though, I think Scott Pioli is the man. If they stay in the 3rd slot they will probably take Aaron Curry. If Cleveland wanted to trade up for Aaron Curry from the 5th slot. It would cost them their 1st plus a 2nd. We would probably have to give them a 5th round pick back to make it even. That move could give us a 1st we could use for NT B.J. Raji, Boston College and maybe a 2nd for a RT like Phil Loadholt, Oklahoma. Not trying to get into a discussion about player values, only that it would meet KCs needs to be able to trade down.

Damn, the Rams are going to a power-running scheme, huh? Spags is going to stress being tough & physical on both sides of the ball...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3969158

The St. Louis Rams finally have a full backfield after reaching a three-year contract agreement with fullback Mike Karney on Tuesday night.

Karney agreed to a three-year, $3.6 million contract that includes $1.2 million in guarantees, according to a source. The Rams have been struggling at that position since they released Madison Hedgecock in 2007. Hedgecock ended up becoming a Pro Bowl alternate for the New York Giants last season.

The signing of Karney gives St. Louis a chance to be more successful in two-back formations. The 27-year-old Karney was named to the All-Pro team in 2006 when he played for the New Orleans Saints. The Saints released him on March 5, putting one of the league's more respected fullbacks on the market. The Rams were quick to have him in for a visit.

The 5-foot-11, 258-pound Karney had 46 career starts in five seasons with the Saints. Karney will be the blocking back for Rams halfback Steven Jackson.

Yep.

They are going to be much improved, IMO.

They've made some excellent moves this offseason, and I think the combination of Spagnuolo and Devaney will have them looking good again in no time.

I would have to agree as well. I like their moves, and they haven't really "broken the bank" except maybe Brown so I don't think their moves jeopardize their future either. I'm a little envious, actually.

And too bad we missed out on Spags, I still think that was one of the best hires this year.
