Any CP Bob & Tom fans?

At one of the radio stations I work with, we're thinking about adding the Bob & Tom show. If you listen to them currently, or have in the past, I'd like to get your input. What do you like about the show? What DON'T you like?
Thanks in advance!

I can't stand Bob and Tom. 90% of their show is canned laughter, or them laughing at themselves. And all of their material has been around for 20 years...

If these are the same guys that our oldies station put on back in the 90s, they lasted about a month IIRC.

That sounds a lot like the douchebags we have on our local rock station in the morning, I can't stand them.

As a fellow radio guy I don't care to listen to endless interviews with half funny comedians and the two of them laughing at their own "genius"..... constantly.... laughing..... all the time.... it bores into my brain. And Chic McGee sucks.

If you're going for that demo though they still have appeal.

As a listener and fan of good radio I want nothing to do with them. As a programmer I'd take a look at them if they weren't too expensive and you knew you could sell it

Yeah, selling it shouldn't be a problem; it just makes me nervous to not play much music in mornings. They're certainly cheaper than the other options for the market I'm talking about.

My old favorite station just started playing these d-bags in the morning. I don't listen to that station anymore.

My dad listens to them.. I always prefer more music than talk. Local flavor is always better than nationalized garbage.

If there's a place to put them that is it. Do you have any format competition with city grade signal in the area? If not, is there a "like" format where's those that are inevitably going to be pissed off can go? A Modern Rock or AOR... even Classic Hits or a 70's heavy Oldies? If there's nowhere for them to go... you can make money on it... and it's cheap... it might be worth your time. As I'm sure you know, for all of those you piss off with any kind of major change, you generally gain them back in new audience.

Bob and Tom:
Hit and miss with them. Depends quite a bit on who the guests are of course. I have almost shot coffee out my nose laughing at some of the stuff. Other times it's borderline annoying. In smaller markets it's probably one alternative when you really don't have local talent.

That's exactly it. No real close in-format competition, and the market is small enough to where there IS no local talent to speak of (but is still big enough to be a rated metro).

Do it then. But be ready for the bitching calls. Then when you dump them in a couple years be ready for the bitching calls agian.

The great thing to me about radio listeners is how they all seem to think we "owe" it to them to do exactly what they want... and bitch at us when we make a decision/change. A change based on the fact that we're running a business that only succeeds by selling advertising... which requires reaching as large an audience as possible. Stop carrying something someone likes... they bitch. Start something they don't like... they bitch. Like we're going to throw business plans in the air because a few people think they own the place just because they listen and should therefor be consulted before changes are made.

If a store changes products they carry here and there I doubt very many people go cussing out management about it. They buy something else. But for some reason radio is there to do only what a given audience thinks it should do. If those people aren't enough to help the stations ratings be where they need to be... and advertising goes down... and revenue goes down... and people lose their jobs... and live jocks get replaced by automation.... God forbid a cost cutting measure was taken or a format change took place. All those listeners should take it as a personal insult to them because we obviously don't care what they want. We wanted to fail... that's why we went with that format you liked in the first place. Too bad there weren't more people supporting the station so we wouldn't have to personally wrong you.

OK I think I'm done with my listener rant now.....

The thing is... the station I'm on now has a great listener base........ unless we ever change I suppose.
