He played DE, DT, and LBer in college and was a wrecking machine. If he lines up as an outside LBer he could become a dominant pass-rusher. His skills are too damn good, to not have been invited to the combine. Here's a brief write up on him that I got from CBSSports.com... You make the call...

2/16/2009 - PRO POTENTIAL: DE Phillip Hunt -- The 2008 C-USA Defensive Player of the Year and two-time first-team all-conference honoree set the school single-season (14) and career records (34) for sacks and made a record 52 consecutive starts. He also had two tackles in the East-West Shrine Game.
Overview
This undersized but strong, hustling rush end put a hurt on Conference USA opponents in his four years in Houston. Hunt lined up at tackle, end and linebacker, and scouts like his versatility. He was twice a first-team All-CUSA pick, accumulating 107 tackles, 36.5 for loss, 25 sacks and five forced fumbles in his junior and senior seasons. In 2008 he was C-USA's Defensive Player of the Year.

2007 Season
First team All-Conf USA. He played DE, DT, and LBer in college and was a wrecking machine. If he lines up as an outside LBer he could become a dominant pass-rusher. His skills are too damn good, to not have been invited to the combine. Here's a brief write up on him that I got from CBSSports.com... You make the call...

Ron Meeks to improve Carolina Defense
January 27th, 2009 9 comments Much is being speculated this morning on the Ron Meeks hire and what it means to the Carolina Panthers defense.

Many assume this means Carolina will be moving to the famed “Tampa 2″ defense. This is a bad assumption. The Carolina Panthers will not, in fact, be overhauling their defensive scheme. Ron Meeks is not being brought in to Carolina for answers on improving the defense. Ron Meeks is being brought in to help implement successfully the defensive vision of Head Coach John Fox.

Meeks will be what Trgovac was not. A competent communicator and technician who is able to get the most out of the defensive players. One thing that anyone who has ever coached under Tony Dungy understands is the importance of fundamentals, solid tackling and avoiding mental errors. These are the things that are being entrusted to Ron Meeks, and not coincidentally, these are the things the Panthers were severely lacking in last season. In most cases, poor execution was at fault more so than a bad defensive plan. Ron Meeks will now be in charge of making sure every one of his defensive players execute with precision on every play.

The Carolina Defense has a long way to go before it is again considered a top tier defense in the league.

The Meeks hire is a huge step in getting them there.

I didn't take it that way, but thank you for the kind gesture. I think this kid really has exceptional skills. He's a high-motor, high work-ethic, leader. He was dominant against the competition he faced and I think he has the motor and work ethic to take his game to an even higher level. I know the Panthers need playmakers, and he is the roll of the dice, that could pay huge dividends.

The Titans slect Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy.

As I said, I really wanted Freeman here (if I could have traded up I would have). With him off the board, I'll go back to the defensive backfield. Some project Martin as a safety, but I like him as a corner. With Nick Harper at the end of his career, Finnegan, DJ Moore, and Martin will give the Titans a full complement of DBs. If Harper still has 1 more year of ball in him, then Martin can be a bigtime special teams coverage man as a rookie.
