No go-to guy, which is true. But the system necessitates athletes. In crunch time, it's usually about getting to the rim, so this bodes well.

Just need someone with stones. Like an English, for example. How about a ****ing freshman stepping to the line?!? Wow.

It's a trade off to be sure, but it sounds like a better method for at least getting to the dances on a more consistent basis.

I guess the point I was trying to make earlier is that by being a consistently winning program, it might be a little easier to push prospects who might be "on the fence" over to your side of the yard.

Now this is true.

Anderson's number one priority needs to be to lock down his own state. If he can do this, he'll eventually land a top-tier guy, like that douche who plays for UNC.

It is. Some KU fans seem to think it impossible for someone to turn down KU to play at MU. If MU keeps it up then the chances of that possibility increase.

And I think I'll ask questions when I damned well please.

Typical; a KanOkie beaker turns a perfectly good MU thread in to a big, steaming pile of Kansas.

Enough. I'm outta' this thread boys. Goodnight!

I think MU will always try to grab a JUCO recruit or two that has been seen as that go-to guy in the past, even in an inferior program.

Zaire Taylor has the nads to take any shot with the game on the line b/c that's what he was asked to do with his JUCO squad. Granted, Taylor's not like Griffen in that he's not exactly a lead-pipe lock to make said shot, but he'll never be afraid to take it.

Ultimately, in college ball, I'll take a savvy PG over a 'go to' scorer every time. I think Anderson's system is so guard heavy that he'll never want for PG recruits. He'll have a strong stable of guards every season. That'll be enough to win you a lot of ballgames.

His major question mark is how well he'll be able to recruit big-men. It'll be the quality of the 4s and 5s on his club (really, two 4s) that will decide if his team is a top 4 in the Big XII, Sweet 16 style club, or just another of the fringe tournament teams we see live and die by their outside shooting every year.

The development of DeWitt and Moore (and Bowers and Ramsey), as well as the end result of the Jerrid Famous recruiting saga will tell us a lot about the long-term potential of this program.

Think about Nolan Richardson's Arkansas teams. Who was the best player to ever come from there? Todd Day? Corliss Williamson? Oliver Miller's fatass? None of those guys were transcendental athletes by any stretch of the imagination.

Missouri will never out-recruit Self at KU. We'll never even have the level of talent that we had with Quin's first few classes, or Norm's better ones. But we will have teams that play much better as a team.
Now that you mention it, we ran into Richardson's "40 minutes of hell" in 1990. I think it was the regional finals. We had just moved freshman Adonis Jordan to point guard. KU proceeded to run Arkansas off the court. "Fatass" Oliver Miller didn't even go to the offensive end of the court the last few minutes. They thought throwing long passes equaled playing fast. They found out different. KU doesn't worry about 40 minutes of hell. Been there done that.

It's not a big secret, really.

Most national championship teams are going to have NBA talent on the roster, period. When Richardson won his, people can criticize the players now, but these were guys that played in the league.

Yeah, they typically weren't great NBAers, but this is beside the point.

If you don't have NBA talent in your program, you're probably not winning it all, barring a miracle.

Most people don't know this but not a single player on Richardson's championship team graduated. That is the reason Arkansas fired him.

I knew his graduation rates were alarming, but didn't know this.

It's a double-edge sword, though, because any coaches job is to win games. Period. Thus they need the best talent, and these guys aren't staying a full 4...

Congrats on getting back to a bigger stage. I knew it would eventually happen under Mike Anderson.

I'm thinking we'll probably try to bring you guys down into a half-court kind of game, like we did at Tennessee. It's probably going to be incredibly ugly and also one of the best games of the round.

Today it is but not so much then. When Arkansas confronted Richardson about it he told them he was running a BB team not an academic team. His salary was being paid not by the University but by an endowment association. His statement really pissed them off. They fired him. He sued them and lost Richardson is a total prick. Herzig told me he drives his golf cart clear up on the fringe of the greens when golfing. The rules don't apply to him. **** Nolan Richardson.
