Tony G has cleaned out his locker

NFL Network, expecting to be traded.

**********

Per Rotoworld
NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that there's an "80-85 percent chance" that Tony Gonzalez will be dealt to the Falcons this offseason.

Lombardi says Gonzo has already cleared his Chiefs locker in anticipation of a deal. The Chiefs lost their second-round pick in February's Matt Cassel trade and are reportedly willing to send Gonzalez to Atlanta for the No. 55 overall pick. Gonzo recently turned 33, but obviously can still play. He caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards (11.0 YPC) and 10 touchdowns in 2008.

I figured Pioli would hold out for more than a 2nd...

Ok Atlanta, we'll take your #24...you can have Gonzalez and a conditional 2011 pick...if Tony retires after next year, we'll give you a 2nd. If Tony retires in two years, you can have a 4th. If he doesn't retire after those two years, you get no pick. I'm sure there will be other stipulations having to do with performance, but you get the jist.

Atlanta obviously thinks they have a 'win now' caliber team with Matt Ryan.

Who are they going to pick at #24 that is going to help them accomplish that goal more than Tony Gonzalez?

They have that franchise QB...they can afford to take a risk on an older TE (I'd say aging, but the dude has only played better with age, so I think that's inappropriate)...

Two years of Tony Gonzalez > Brandon Pettigrew if you ask me.

I love Pioli (by the way)...

Last season...the drafturbators were BEGGING for the Chiefs to take a 3rd for Gonzalez...not only did that not happen (to the chagrins of drafturbators everywhere)...but the Chiefs got another quarter of the season out of him...and now apparently he had more value than our armchair GM's thought...as the Falcons want him "badly" and for a 2nd round pick...yet that isn't enough for former executive of the year, Scott Pioli

Awesome. I can't wait until we turn our 33 year old franchise icon into a 1st round pick and then all of those armchair, drafturbating ChiefsPlanet.com GM's can eat their plate full of crow for wanting to sell Gonzalez off like he was a cheap whore because he was "aging" and doesn't play a valuable position.

DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB!!

Pioli rules.

Well said. Not sure about a 1st rounder, but point taken.

One of the reasons we're likely getting offered higher picks now could be the dog$#it talent in this year's draft.

And talk about Pioli getting value.

We trade for a QBOTF giving up only a second while possibly getting a 2nd+ for our 33 year old TE.

I'd prefer to keep Tony but if we can get a 2nd+ at least we got a damned good deal...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I don't know. This draft seems as strong as any other. Its only weakness is that the offensive depth is huge and the defensive depth is shallow, making for a big disparity between the two sides.

Are all Falcons fans this ****ing stupid? Yeah ok, lets send them Dorsey for some 2nds and a 5th round pick. While we're at it, lets package in a pick with Tony for that 2nd rounder! Shit lets send Cassel to Denver for a ham sandwhich and a 40 of Olde English.

When it's Carl doing the dealing, you pray for a third. No one here has discounted Pioli's record or abilities, only questioned some of his choices when all of the details or big picture are not made clear.
Do you believe those of us who champion proven building methods miss Carl, or are you just so full of your own shit that you can't see the forest for the trees?
You have a big mouth for such a dumb mother****er.
Anywho, resume with your Clown-Fest.

Agreed. And its about the same here w/ those that think we will get (or expect to get) more than a 2nd for Tony. Fantasy land. Ain't gonna happen either way.
