Matthew Stafford has reportedly begun telling his former Georgia teammates that he'll be the Lions' pick at No. 1 overall.

Stafford is allegedly saying the pick is a "done deal" and that he'll receive more than $40 million guaranteed. Matt Ryan, the top quarterback chosen in last year's draft, got $34.75M guaranteed on a six-year contract. Apr. 13 - 6:54 pm et

Can't believe that the Motor City will pass on Aaron "Messiah" Curry! May his reign at Arrowhead be long and properous!

I'm still holding out the smallest bit of hope that the Lions will take Crabtree and we can get Stafford and trade Cassel for a midround 1st and we pick DHB there, trade Tony for a 2nd and get a pass rushing tweener or one of the Centers.

I'd rather have Nicks than DHB, but other than that I love your idea...

I'm a big fan of DHB. We need that burner and if we get rid of TG it was give us another option in the offense. Of course any of the top WR's would work. This would be what I'd want to do if we trade down also.

Focus on defense next year when the prospects are better. In a perfect world we could do this and pick up one of the safeties or a top pass rusher next year. It would help if part of a trade down package included a 1st rounder next year.

Of course, if we keep Cassel and trade down a burner won't do too much since Cassel doesn't have the most accurate of deep balls.

My thing with DHB is whether or not he can ever really be more than just a burner. I'd rather have a quick twitch guy with good football acumen over a physical specimen with straight-line speed. I've been around with Mecca on this one.

That's a valid concern, but all signs point to yes for me. That is just my opinion and I've been wrong before though.

I saw a thread you and Mecca were having a DHB discussion right after I posted my DHB support. I'm on record going back to well before the combine that I like him though.

The #3 pick will like get between $30M and $35M guaranteed and a total contract worth around $60M.

Next years rookies are going to be so pissed.

That is if, and they had better, get a rookie salary slotting system in place.

A clause should be added (hereby known as the Raiders Clause) that any rookie drafted by the raiders, so long as Al Davis is alive, is allowed a 15% pay increase over the player drafted before them... this is seen only as fair since their career is effectively ruined and they will have no shot at a good or great 2nd contract later in their career.
