Hillman made the lineup in a manner to accomplish this, right? Now his in-game decisions need to do the same. It's really not that difficult.
Well, I'm not taking a side, but it also has to do with how this hitter is handling the bat recently, what the situation in the game is, with the pitcher, the batter's history against the pitcher.

I'm not saying he was right or wrong, but it's deeper than just "never do it unless you have a terrible hitter up there"

My biggest problem is that it was the bottom of the ****ing 3rd and you're in the heart of the lineup. It doesn't get any more obvious than this.
You know, the Twins who seem to be at the top of the division year in and out put the bunt down early in games as well. It's part of not having a power lineup.

Seems like to me the Royals have a confidence problem at the plate. Once they start hitting everyone loosens up and they get runs in bunches.

This is the AL. We're playing the team that has scored the most runs in the league, and it's the bottom of the 3rd. And we were in the heart of the lineup.

It would be tough for that call to be wrong on any more levels. It wasn't as grievous as asking the #3 hitter to sac, but it wasn't good...

It's far more likely that they hit bad pitchers (Purcey and Tallet) and struggle against better ones.

It's the same problem every year. Everyone is always waiting for someone else to get it going.
