I took exception to that as well. My husband is an amazing father like his father was.

I think therein lies the key. McNair was raised by a single Mom. He had no father role model to emulate. He would think his being there when he could and especially taking care of them financially would be being a good parent. Afterall, it's more than his father did. But, as Whitlock points out, there's more to it than that.

Oh, come on.

I don't by any means condone what he did, but there could be mitigating factors. Maybe his marriage was basically over, and he had moved on as she had. Who knows.

Even if this really was something that the worst possible light is close to reality, he didn't deserve to get freaking murdered.

There were times when he'd rather talk about their offense than the Tacks'. He also loved to tell jokes - except he got them wrong all the time. Screwed up the punch line like clockwork. Very funny.

He wasn't the monster that some people will make him out to be. That's my only point.

I say thanks for sharing this about a friendship you shared with him when you didn't have too. Sounds like a pretty good dude. I remember it was 99 or '00 and the hit he took from Duane Clemons against KC and he bruised his sternum up pretty bad. Had to be fun talking ball and life with him.
