O'Connell and Guttierrez are better set to run a pro offense now. But their upside is that they'll be a borderline #2-#3 string at best and good chance they aren't in the NFL at all in a few years.

O'Connel has been in the league 1 year and was a 3rd round pick I don't think he has less upside than Tyler Thigpen who still right now, can't take center snaps.

Why are people so convinced that Thigpen makes the roster over Guttierez? I'm just curious what people see in the guy that make them think he's anything close to a lock. Last time I checked, he threw two picks against a 4th string defense.

Properly dropping back with proper mechanics goes a long way after watching Tyler Thigpen for a year.

Because the argument to be made is that O'Connell failed to show any signs of success despite the fact that he had good experience reading defenses, taking snaps under center, and having access to good coaches. So yes, I think he has a lot more limited upside than a guy who should probably improve if he works on his fundamentals through a good coach.

After reading an article about Mike Martz's style of coaching, it doesn't seem to be nearly as difficult as it seems. It just takes a lot of repetition and a QBs coach who is a complete stickler for fundamentals. It just so happens that the guy tutoring Thigpen on how to do it, Dick Curl, was a complete moron.

By the way, speaking of crazy, am I the only one that finds it strange that a team with so many young QBs on their roster doesn't have a QBs coach? Who's coaching our QBs right now?

There are a few that are convinced of that, but I don't think that represents the majority of "supporters."

I don't think Thigpen is that good today and I think there's a good chance he won't be good tomorrow. But I think he has the upside to be a decent QB.

Thigpens idea of playing QB, is to honestly play...like it's a Madden online game and run around like crazy and chuck it up.

Forget Thigpen. From what I've seen, Guttierrez is better than O'Connell.

You have no idea how he would function behind an offensive line that actually formed a sustainable pocket. I agree that he's got a lot of stuff to work on, including decision making, but let's not confuse things he did on purpose versus things he had to do out of necessity.

How many QBs does our o-line have to kill before we realize that maybe some of our QBs are negatively affected by their poor play?
