Three teams are interested in Jon Runyan

This thread is a combination of the following 3 threads...

AUSTINCHIEF- *************************************
ok, I have mentioned before that I would love to see Runyan in KC...

I decided to start my own thread about it... because... well... I can.

So, here are my reasons why...

#1 all the obvious reasons... he is a pro bowler, proven player, definite upgrade, etc etc

#2 another fairly obvious one... Ndukwe would be better used at RG and this would let him move there.

#3 now we get to the good stuff... ON THE FIELD he is a nasty, mean, dirty S.O.B.

#4 OFF THE FIELD, he is a stand up guy, nice etc...

IF he can give us 2 solid years, he is well worth the investment until we can groom someone to replace him... MOST IMPORTANTLY he sets a perfect example of what our linemen of the future should aspire to be.

As the regular season approaches, a guy who has been on the field every Sunday since 1997 still doesn't have a job.

But, by all indications, he will soon.

Per a league source, tackle Jon Runyan has been cleared to play after offseason microfracture surgery to repair an injured knee.

We're told that three teams are interested in Runyan. According to the source, Runyan rejected an opportunity to sign a contract last week because he didn't want to play for the team in question.

Oakland Raiders? We're looking at you.

Given the rule that guarantees a vested veteran's salary if he's on the Week One roster, look for Runyan to do a deal after the first games are played.

But if there are multiple teams in the mix, the one that's willing to step up and sign him now could be the one to get him.

Except for the Raiders.
I imagine we're one of the three teams that are interested, but were we the one team Runyan told to "**** off."?

He was, however there's been no word on how that workout went, if he was offered a contract or even if he left without a contract....

I believe it was said on 610 Sports this morning that Runyan did, in fact, pass his physical.

Nice. Be interesting to see if we offer him a contract, or are content with what we have over signing Runyan.

I guarantee they won't sign him until after Week 1. They would have to guarantee his contract if he signed before.

exactly, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the chiefs cut Zach Thomas for that precise reason. He could be resigned after week 1.

Yep.

Can't get the kind of leadership and example of doing things right on the rehab bikes anywhere else.

Runyan visits the Eagles

Posted by Mike Florio on September 10, 2009 12:39 PM ET
We were told earlier today that four teams are now interested in veteran tackle Jon Runyan, and that he's visiting one of them today.

As it turns out, that team is the team for which he has been a fixture on the right edge of the line.

Jeff McLane and Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer report that Runyan worked out today for Eagles coach Andy Reid, offensive line coach Juan Castillo, and G.M. Tom Heckert.

Brad Biggs of NFP recently reported that Runyan worked out for the Chiefs.

Our guess is that a mini-auction will emerge for Runyan's services after Week One, when Runyan's full salary no longer will essentially be guaranteed.

We previously reported that Runyan has turned down a recent offer from a team for which he didn't want to play.

I'm guessing he goes to the highest bidder and we won't be the highest bidder.

Knowing him as you do, do you think he'll be more inclined to go to a sure bet winner? or, would he come here for a solid contract?

Runyan cleared to play, but return to Eagles unlikely

By PAUL DOMOWITCH
Philadelphia Daily News
[email protected]
Jon Runyan is ready to play football again. Now he just needs somebody to offer him a contract.
The 35-year-old free-agent offensive tackle, who had microfracture surgery on his right knee in February, was cleared for full contact Monday by Dr. James Andrews, the Birmingham, Ala., orthopedist who operated on him.
"I can play," Runyan said. "I'm not the smoothest in the world right now. But I can still get the job done. We're sure it's healed. Now the biggest thing is just getting back. Getting over the mental aspect of throwing your leg into the ground. And that's only going to happen when you prove to yourself that you can do it.
"You can only do so many drills and run so many sprints. Eventually, you have to get out there and hit somebody and say, 'Wow, it didn't hurt.' "
Runyan, who has started 192 straight regular-season games, has no workouts scheduled with any teams yet, but is confident he will be playing this season.
"It'll definitely happen," he said. "Whether it's next week when everybody's juggling their rosters, or a few weeks after that, I'll wait and see what happens.
"It's just a matter of timing right now. You never know what's going to happen from week to week. Somebody goes down and all of a sudden, [a team] is in a bind. I'm not in a big hurry."
Runyan, who spent nine seasons as the Eagles' starting right tackle, became an unrestricted free agent in March. The Eagles had planned to replace him with guard Shawn Andrews. But Andrews, who missed 14 games last season with a herniated disc in his back, reinjured his back on the first day of training camp and has yet to practice.
Despite Andrews' "Hell, yeah" declaration Monday that he'll be able to play in the Eagles' Sept. 13 season opener against Carolina, that is far from a certainty. Winston Justice will make his third preseason start tomorrow at right tackle for the Eagles.
Coach Andy Reid said 2 weeks ago that he hadn't completely closed the door to the possibility of re-signing Runyan. But they have yet to invite him in for a workout or physical.
Asked yesterday whether the Eagles had any interest in re-signing Runyan, an Eagles executive told the Daily News, "I wouldn't rule it out, but right now, it's unlikely."
Runyan said he is willing to wait for the right offer.
"It has to be right," he said. "Ultimately, the game is about making a bunch of money. If it's not there now, at some point in the first couple months of the season I'm pretty sure it's going to be there. It's just a matter of mentally preparing yourself for that and keeping yourself ready to go."
Runyan and his family live in Mount Laurel, N.J., but he said he will play wherever the best opportunity - and offer - presents itself.
"With the uncertainty over the CBA and everything, I'm probably looking at a 1-year contract," he said. "So what are you looking at? Four-and-a-half months maybe? You can't really turn anything down for 4 1/2 months' work."

As was said, he is looking for the best $$$ deal... but I'm sure he'll lean toward Philly unless someone (Chiefs) are willing to sign him before Sunday or pay him a substantial amount more.

Here are the two ways I see this going... someone signs him NOW and he is ready to play by week 2 or 3... OR he waits for someone to realize how badly they need him(injury, etc) and they sign him a few weeks into the season.
