I was born in 1985...

I was born in Illinois...my mother and father got divorced...I moved with my father to Lenexa, Kansas and my mom remained in Illinois...

Over the years I became a diehard Chiefs fan (Derrick Thomas) and a diehard Bulls fan (Michael Jordan)...

When I was 6 years old I remember (a first sports moment) watching a Chiefs game with my dad and seeing Derrick Thomas sack John Elway, cause a fumble, and recover it...my dad vividly remembers this because I was so excited and he remembers it as one of my first true sports fan moments...as a dad, that has to be special.

I also remember growing up idolizing Michael Jordan.

Wow. That's all I can say.

I remember 2nd grade...I was in 2nd grade...at Rising Star Elementary School in Lenexa, KS...when Michael Jordan retired for the first time...Michael Jordan was so BIG that an elementary school...IN KANSAS...aired his retirement...live...at school...I was so distraught...I cried...my teacher sent me home to my dad...Michael Jordan was my hero.

He comes back...1994...I call my mom...my hero is back...my 11th birthday hits and at my dads front porch awaits for me, on my birthday, may 11th...a Michael Jordan #45 jersey (his comeback jersey) from my mom on my birthday...

I watch as he struggles through round 1...they win...but there awaits the almighty Magic...he's isn't the same...so, despite the fine he receives...he comes out against the Magic in the playoffs wearing old trusty...#23...gets fined every game...

But whatever...he's Michael Jordan.

This series marks the only time Mr. Dependable lets down a kid who envies him more than his own father...Nick Anderson strips him from behind in game 6 to seal the series for the Magic...my God lets me down...I'm devastated.

And that right there is the legacy of Michael Jordan.

No other athlete could do that...no one has ever thought about that...

When it was all said and done...when a game was one the line...when a series was on the line...Michael Jordan never let you down...

He was AMAZING...unbelievable...we will NEVER again see something like that...

As a child, he was my hero.

Why?

Simple.

When I expected him to do something, when the weight of the world was on his shoulders...he came through. No matter what...Michael Jordan was bigger than life.

No one else, regardless of talent, will ever be Michael Jordan.

Not LeBron, not Kobe...

Michael deserves every single bit of attention he receives this weekend...because he single-handedly motivated and inspired MY generation to be great...no matter what...MJ is who we look up to...he is our God...

I felt the same way about Bo.

Always the outside hope Bo would sign/get traded to KC.

It was too perfect, how could it not happen?

Never did. Bo was still a giant. I remember reading his book and after everything, the money, highlights, retiring and raising kis he still wanted one thing.

To kick the $#it out of the only guy that ever beat his ass.

He's not perfect or refined but he's still a force. I guess you just judge men like Bo, or Ali, or Jordan, or Tiger differently...

For those who didn't get to experience him live, I'd analogize it to an NFL player with the physique and skills of Adrian Peterson, with the mental acumen, touch and flair of Joe Montana, the coverage skills of Deion Sanders, and the hard charging inevitability of Tiger Woods.

oh, i'm not trying to start a brady vs montana debate. they are both great, and couldn't pick one over the other, but if they saw montana play enough to understand how great he was, then they were probably around to watch jordan completely dominate the nba. when i see old highlight reels of jordan, it still gives me chills. simply amazing.

No denying his greatness, but I still contend that the "inevitability" of Jordan enhanced by the fact that his Bulls won their Championships after the Bird, Magic and Ike and the teams around them began to decline physically, and there were no great teams to contend with the Bulls.
