This Sanchez Chap

I fully admit that I'm not very savvy when it comes to football, but while watching the Chiefs game this weekend, CBS suddenly turned to the Jets' game instead (I'm not really sure why). Anyway, the Jets had a QB named Sanchez that seemed really good a throwing the ball (which is, I think, the primary goal of a QB). So, I started thinking: "I think this is the chap who the Chiefs could have drafted this year, but didn't."

Is that correct?

If so, how much are the Jets paying this Sanchez fellow in comparison to Cassel?

Thanks.

I'm waiting for Stevie to tell us why all of the tape on Cassel from last year doesn't count.

Actually, most QBs start to decline at about 32-33.

Marino, Aikman, Young, Favre, Montana.

Look at their stats. Usually a QBs best years are from 28-32.

The good thing about QBs is that their declines are more gradual than any other position, so we do have that going for us.

But yeah, basically just "27, 27, 27".
Actually, Cassel handled the pocket as admirably as you can expect of a QB with lousy protection on Sunday. Taking only 3 sacks despite an abortion of a performance from the o-line isn't bad, and on most passes, he took a pretty big shot after delivering his pass. And his accuracy is fine beyond short range--he just has to prove he can hit the deep ball, which I think is the most overrated element of a QB's game. As for the "elite talent," he also hasn't proven that he can't perform well without elite talent.

Of course he has plenty to prove, but you also leave out the part about Cassel improving pretty significantly last year on most of those things you just spoke about.

Then it's been a complete waste and a very disappointing start to Pioli's tenure in KC.

Honest question, maybe it's just me, but the trade for Cassel just spoke to me as typical Chiefs move. Have a chance to draft a guy and you go with the trade, it's moves like that, that I've been dealing with my entire life with this franchise.
It was a typical Chiefs move and it is what makes it hard to be a Chiefs fan. I think he will fail because he isnt as talented as advertised and because of this god awful line that has been put in front of him.

The gameplan ensured that he couldn't take more than 3 sacks. He basically never threw beyond 5 yards and he hardly threw at all in the second half.

I'm afraid that the game was managed for Cassel; he certainly wasn't managing anything, except to facilitate the futile handoffs.

Since '83 dude, the last time we went all in to try to draft and develop our own franchise QB.

Who's fault was that? He was dumping off short 5 yard passes and he was STILL getting walloped.

If your pass protection can't protect you long enough to drop back and throw to your first option, what can a QB possibly do?

It had nothing to do with the gameplan. And it most certainly wasn't adjusted for Cassel. It was adjusted because no QB on earth could have possibly made anything happen against that poor of protection.
