Thank goodness Allen is gone.

If Allen were not traded, the Chiefs don't go 2-14 last year. The Chiefs don't set the record for fewest sacks in a year. The Chiefs don't have massive changes.

CP probably would have stuck it out at least another year. If not, the Chiefs would have probably gone with Kuharich, whom most believed was being groomed to be CP's replacement.

With CP or Kuharich, and a decent season, Herm Edwards would be strolling up and down the sidelines right now.

The reality is that it took a total shit season to cause the massive changes with the Chiefs.

And, with Jared Allen.... the Chiefs would have not had a massively shit season.

Heck, with Kuharich, Herm and Allen, the Chiefs would in fact be better than they are right now. I truly believe that. But, they would still be mediocre.

This is painful. This is the worst I have ever seen as a Chiefs fan....even worse than the 80's.

But, as bad as it is, I would rather build something with Pioli that I think can be great someday, than continue to be a 'decent' team over the next 20 years and struggle to win a playoff game.

So, yeah, Allen had a great game last night. (don't forget the line he faced was worse, much worse, than the Chiefs) Allen is a great player. But, the loss of Allen gave us more than just a few picks. It gave us a new GM. It gave us a new head coach. It gave us a new foundation. It gave us a new direction.

So, good riddance Jared Allen.

I said the Chiefs would have won at least six games. If Jared Allen wouldn't have made an impact in at least four of those seven games.... then he isn't an impact player.
They would have won a game or two more, that's all.

I'm wondering if the completely sucking plan is designed to fill Arrowhead when we get up to a 5-win season.

Okay. I will try to talk slow, so you can understand.

The Chiefs lost seven games by seven points or less. The Chiefs lost four of those seven by four points or less.

Three of those games were against the Broncos, and the Chargers.

The division was won with an 8-8 record.

Now, I said they would have won six games.... which I think is pretty plausible given the way the games went and the lack of pass rush the Chiefs had.

If Allen can't have that kind of an impact, then the crying about him being gone is silly.

Ownership may have needed to do ALOT of things, but the simple FACT is that they DIDN'T. They ONLY made changes after the team DID bottom out. That's not my opinion, that's fact.

The move was the catalyst for the end of Peterson's regime. They won 2 games. Do you honestly think that would have happened WITH Jared Allen?

That's fine, I respect your opinion. But I wasn't prepared for 10 more years of Peterson. And if trading Jared Allen was what it took to get rid of him, I applaud the move.

It was "time" when he was pathetically trying to extend the Marty years by hiring Gunther. It was "time" when he said that Vermeil was the only coach he ever wanted and he would leave when Dick did.

I don't believe that for one second. Sorry.

Hey, we will never know for sure... but you don't pay a guy that kind of money if he makes that little of an impact.

The Chiefs were better in the secondary, and much better on offense in 2008.

The Chiefs lost FOUR games by four points or less. This is with the WORST pass rush in NFL history. Allen would have helped that tremendously. He would have had much more of an effect than you understand.

The writing was on the wall for Peterson when Lamar died.

So if the Chiefs had won 4 or 5 games last year, he wouldn't have been fired. Riiight.

He got fired because Lamar died prior to that and someone else was in control who didn't have time for his underachievement.

Um, didn't Jared Allen almost get as many sacks in ONE GAME as we did in ONE SEASON last year? He's a playmaker, fellas. In this league where pass rush is the king of defense, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that it was ultimately good that he's gone.

Unfortunately, circumstances essentially forced the Chiefs' hand. That and Carl Peterson. Unless Clark could have stepped in and worked it out, JA wasn't signing an extension here. There was no trust in the relationship. JA thought that Peterson was a liar, and Peterson was convinced that JA was one bender away from a long suspension.

Of course it's speculation, but that's what I believe.

We really don't know much yet about who Clark is outside of his father's shadow. But he has done one thing that leads me to believe he'll be a good owner. When we needed a new GM, he went out and got the guy everyone thought couldn't be had. That move left me with the impression that he has the chops to run this team, which in turn makes me think that Peterson's era was going to end regardless of 2 wins or 8.
