****Official Weight Loss and Exercise Thread****

I know that TinyE has the CP Weight Loss Challenge thread, but this is a new beginning for me. No losing weight for prizes, as that motivation ended on July 1st. This time I'm doing it for me. My goal is 75 lbs. Slow and steady wins the race. This time, the prize will be a whole new me.

Anyone else still battling the bulge? Here, hopefully, you can find more encouragement and tips on diet and exercise. Feel free to talk about discouragements, setbacks, frustrations, etc as well. We're here to help...at least I am.

You are the one who started this garbage.

I have lost 125 pounds in the last 2 years. I am down to about 230. I still want to get down to the manarexic, for me, weight of around 180 just to see what I look like then maintain around 200.

I started because my son said one day, Papa I cant wait till you are skinnier so you can play with us more. The next day I started walking around the block, then that turned into fast walking, then jogging, then running. Got a treadmill, did power 90 and now I am on p90x.
It isn't easy, and like I said I need to lose more but it feels so great to be smaller.

That's an awesome story, man. Congrats and very cool that your son motivated you! Even cooler that you came through for him.

Chiken burgers are great. You can look up a recipe, but the one I like has green olives and smoked red peppers in it. Not spicy at all, but delicious. You can cooke up the rice as a side, or I love it with sweet potato fries. I usually don't have it on a bun. It has plenty of flavor to eat plain as well.

Also, if you can, switch to brown rice. It takes some getting used to, but now, I actually like it better with most of the dishes I cook.

The only time I like white rice is when I have a sweet dish, like sweet and sour chicken, or sesame chicken, honey walnut chicken, etc.

You have a much nicer kid than me. My youngest looked at me and said, "Daddy, you used to be in shape... what happened?". She was six.

At that point, I started trying to work out around the house. I found that I would get distracted, or choose to play with my kids, or work on a project..... or, well just about anything, other than go to the basement to work out on the thousands of dollars worth of equipment I had bought.

Now, I just go to the gym. I have sold most of my equipment, and at 45.00 per month for my whole family.... it was a much wiser invertment.

Okay, I know you are right about the general concept. However, one thing that is lost on many is that by dieting, many times you will lose muscle mass along with fat unless you are exercising.

Losing muscle mass actually slows your metabolism.

Additionally, if you maintain a low calorie diet for a long period of time, your body's metabolic rate will drop to adjust, and you will feel sluggish, and you will eventually stop losing weight and may even put weight back on. Even if you are still overweight.

I think it is smarter to encourage excercise, especially, resistance training first to build muscle, to increase metabolism. Then, start to work on a diet. Even then, you want to make sure your diet still has enough protein to avoid the body using mucscle mass as fuel.

Hey, I will be in KC for spring break. I'd be happy to do the planet a favor. We can record it, so we can post it on here.

Fair fight. We can even wear gloves and headgear, so that we don't mess up that pretty little face of yours and further worsen your chances of getting laid... since that is your one goal in life.

I am 35, 5'10", 190lbs, and I can't even bench 300lbs. I am a bit of a wimp.

Just let me know. And yes, I am serious. We can even set up a ring. We can have people from the planet attend... even sell tickets to benefit the planet, or a charity.

I am down for whatever. Also, I have no formal boxing training.

We can do regular boxing, or kick boxing, or heck, go all MMA.

Name the game....

Do I want to kick your ass? No. Not really. But, it seems like somebody should. So, why not?

And, its not like I am going to jump you at some bar. We could set up a legit boxing match. And, I'm not Chuck Norris. I am just a guy... a random guy. You could be a huge badass and then you could kick my ass.

Either way, it would be fun.... of course more fun, if I kick yours.
