The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.


Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

I lost 8 lbs, 2 shy of my goal. But, I did lose 1/4" on my thighs, which is exactly how much I wanted to lose.

Yes, I did notice that I'm quicker like I was before I started bulking, but I'm still stronger than when I started the bulk. So, awesome.

Of course, I'm sure the Beta Alanine and Citrulline Malate helped, but I've been taking CM all along. Only started BA this weekend. I noticed improvements before this weekend, so can't all be the BA. Still, BA is awesome.

Well, just got home from the gym... great workout tonight. I felt like I could go for another hour. Chest, tris, shoulders.

I wish I enjoyed doing my biceps as much as I enjoy working my triceps.

Good news for you. You don't need to dedicate working biceps. They're a stabilizer muscle, so as long as the rest of your body is growing, your biceps will, too. Pullups, rows and lateral raises all work your biceps just as much as curls and have the added benefit of working much larger muscle groups at the same time.

Great workout tonight. Back and biceps. Getting more into biceps. Actually enjoyed it tonight. I am going to feel this tomorrow.... but it will be a great feeling.

Did three sets of as many pull ups that I could do. Of course, that was three for each set.... weak, I know. I then did three sets of assisted pullups with 55 pounds of assistance.

Then, cable pull downs, lower cable rows, Lat Iso machines, preacher curls, standing curls, reverse curls, hanging leg lifts, rotator cuffs exercises.

Great workout. I was actually sorry to leave. I need a 24 hour gym.

You guys are definitely stronger and more built than me, I'd say... that being said, I recently had a lot of success with pull ups. I had basically plateaued at sets of 5 (sounds kind of like you with your sets of 3). I started throwing on the weight belt and -adding- weight for my pullups for a few weeks. That got me over the hump, and I can rock out sets of 15-20 now.

Just an idea. You might not have been doing pullups for long, but if you ever start feeling like you're not progressing, think about adding some weight for a while.

Weight belt is good. I also dig the assisted pullup machine for developing pullup endurance.

Do as many unassisted as you can, then pull the bar up and immediately do as many as you can with 20 pounds of assistance... then to 40 once you're done with that. Repeat 4 times. In a month, you'll be able to knock out pullups like crazy.

I'm going to try that. Feeling like I'm at a plateau on the weighted pullups. Been using those "can" handles to do them lately. Not sure if you know what I'm talking about, but they basically work the shit out of your forearms because they require you to maintain a much wider, more tenuous grip while doing the exercises.
